Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer with a focus on Mechanical commodities to join our team. You will be accountable for executing and delivering Supplier Quality strategies within the relevant program, line of business, or manufacturing environment. This role involves ensuring supplier compliance to regulatory requirements and leading continuous process improvements to maintain high-quality performance from suppliers.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the Project Manager for resolving supplier caused issues and serve as the internal liaison to DRS stakeholders on supplier caused issues.
- Lead and perform on-site supplier engagements, including performance reviews, surveillances, and QMS audits. Occasional Source Inspections may also be necessary.
- Conduct process and product audits, capacity assessments, and ensure supplier compliance with military and company standards.
- Evaluate and disposition non-conforming materials and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for process and product quality issues with suppliers.
- Initiate and manage Supplier Corrective Action Plans and follow up to ensure objective evidence for closure.
- Monitor, report, improve, and develop supplier performance through robust data analysis and execution of CI initiatives.
- Provide technical support for Assembly/Test/Inspection personnel, specifying sampling plans, and developing inspection methods and criteria within DRS receiving inspection.
- Represent the company with professionalism and credibility in supplier and customer engagements.
- Drive supplier continuous improvement processes and lead cross-functional teams.
- Analyze data to identify and mitigate supplier quality risks to prevent material defect occurrences.
- Understand general procurement principles in defense and commercial environments.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 3-6 years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Design Engineering, preferably in a Defense manufacturing environment.
- Working within a regulated environment with working knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100D or similar.
- Proficient experience with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plan tools.
- Lead Auditor Certification preferred.
- Confidence and experience to speak directly with executive management of supplier organizations to communicate production defects and audit results which including both successes and programmatic deficiencies.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods/analytics, Lean and continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to understand military specifications and to read blueprints.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills.
- Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action. Resolves problems independently and in a timely fashion.
- Valid passport (or ability to obtain one) is required. Position requires mainly domestic travel, between 10-25%.
- Security Clearance may be required.
