This Mechanical Engineering Intern role with Leonardo DRS is built for Junior or Senior-level student who wants real project experience—using 3D CAD, collaborating with manufacturing and labs, and helping take products from design through build and test.

What You Will Do
  • Support Land Electronics engineering with routine engineering assignments and hands-on shop or lab tasks
  • Work independently on daily tasks while collaborating with engineers, manufacturing, and lab teams
  • Apply and continue building skills with shop and laboratory equipment and processes
  • Assist with the design, build, and/or procurement of improved machines, tools, fixtures, and material handling equipment—and help coordinate implementation
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including bill of materials, route sheets, and process documentation
  • Review project instructions and drawings to understand test specs, procedures, objectives, equipment needs, technical challenges, and manufacturing considerations
  • Fabricate and assemble new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components and assemblies
  • Under direction, set up and conduct tests on units and components
  • Analyze test results against design and test objectives, adjusting equipment to meet specifications
  • Document test procedures and results (numerical and graphical), and recommend improvements to products or test methods
  • Help create documentation to support equipment maintenance and sustainment

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a BS or MS Mechanical Engineering program (preferred Junior or Senior standing)
  • GPA 2.85+ and at least two years of engineering coursework completed
  • Able to work effectively independently and in a team.
  • Strong, pro-active problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to support a 9/80, 40+ hour per week, 5/18-8/7/26
  • Onsite during training and then hybrid schedule thereafter.
