POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Floater reports to the Production Supervisor and is based out of our Hendersonville, North Carolina location. 

 This individual will be responsible for backfilling and/or assisting the Production positions of Filler Operator, Label Operator, and Case Packer Operator when needed. 

 For backfilling/assisting the Filler Operator position: Being responsible for one production line filler and support equipment for filling products and being responsible for product quality and product safety (including CQP and CCP monitoring requirements).  Performing product and package changeovers.  Keeping material and product loss to a minimum.  Performing product quality checks.  

 For backfilling/assisting the Label Operator position: Being responsible for operating 1-2 production line labelers associated with the line the employee has been assigned to in an efficient manner.  

 For backfilling/assisting the Case Packer Operator position: Operating the Case Packer associated with the line the employee has been assigned to in an efficient manner. 

Employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with close attention to detail through many changes. 

They will be accountable for food safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements in all roles assigned.

Employee will be expected to maintain a clean and orderly work area on an on-going basis, in compliance with the company's good housekeeping practices, and must adopt and maintain all SQF requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

 

Filler Operator

  • Responsible for moving juice from the run tank to the filler, keeping accurate data on temperature control charts, ensuring Critical Control Points are met, completing CIP/Kosher/Organic washes from the run tank through the pasteurizer and to the fillers
  • Attend the filler by operating the equipment efficiently to optimize production-line run time 
  • Monitor the flow of bottles from the depalletizing area, clear bottle jams and alert maintenance personnel of any mechanical malfunctions
  • Retrieve bottle caps from the storage area and fill cap hopper 
  • Monitor and adjust the speed of bottle filler to ensure proper workflow to the rest of the production line
  • Perform minor adjustments on equipment to ensure smooth operation of the production line
  • Complete packaging changeovers on the filler, rinser, and depal by adjusting rails, swapping out change parts, and adjusting the timing
  • Sample product at the beginning of the run to ensure conformance to standards
  • Retrieve product quality specifications from the “Processing Guide” as provided by the Quality Assurance Department
  • Perform required quality tests to ensure that the batch conforms to product quality specifications using analytical laboratory equipment.  Weight sample of five bottles of product using the scale
  • Maintain a clean work area.  
  • Perform water and chemical washes at the pasteurizer, filler, and support tanks.  Ensure correct washes are taking place by checking processing guides and QAD schedules.   
  • Document wash process as they are being performed on the chart records.  Track formula yield.
  • Monitor pasteurizer and fill-tank temperature charts, product flow rates, and fill-tank levels.  
  • Adjust temperatures and/or product flow to ensure conformance to specifications and established standards - record reason for variations on temperature charts 
  • Record all product changes at change-over time on pasteurizer and fill-tank temperature charts.
  • This role will be required to taste test products as needed, up to a couple of ounces per test

 

Label Operator

  • Set up and operate a production label machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Control and adjust machine settings to complete simple tasks accurately, according to specification, and in a timely fashion.  
  • Understand and properly operate all machine controls.
  • Know the purpose and follow the proper operation of all safety switches, interlocks and safety devices
  • Perform and record all required quality checks and documents on provided documentation.
  • Perform label changes properly and documents in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Perform changeovers of labeling equipment by removing and installing change parts and adjusting/setup for new bottle sizes
  • ·         Set up and change cap coding equipment.   Perform computer work to scan bottle labels and enter the necessary cap coding information into the cap coding equipment

 

Case Packer Operator

  • Operate a case packing, case former, and case sealing production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Control and adjust machine settings to complete simple tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion
  • Know the purpose and follow the proper operation of all safety switches, interlocks, and safety devices
  • Perform label cuts and clear jams
  • Monitor the flow of cases out of the case packer, add bottles to partially filled cases, monitor label quality, and replace bottles as necessary
  • Monitor the operation of the case sealer; maintain the glue level in the hot melt unit with the specified glue
  • Change codes in the Marsh coder, as needed
  • Remove and replace grid and assist maintenance in size changeovers

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED Equivalent; or equivalent work experience
  • Six months experience in a manufacturing environment operating production equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed oriented and can multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must be able to read operating procedures and quality documentation

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Training of the use of Power Industrial Trucks (PIT)
  • Forklift experience
  • Experience in the food/beverage industry
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Consultative, influential, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical manufacturing setting; work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle.

 

FREQUENT:  Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in the area of responsibility.  Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal). Sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at the waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.

 

OCCASIONAL:  Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using the LOTO program.  Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

 

VISION:  Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction.  Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high-speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

 

HEARING:  Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.  Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines, and exhaust fans.
