POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrician / PLC Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is based out of our Springdale, Arkansas location. This role is responsible for executing electrical installations, repairs, preventative maintenance (PM), and continuous process improvements on all production equipment and facility systems in an effective, safe, and timely manner. A primary focus of this position is maximizing equipment uptime and operational efficiency. The Electrician / PLC Technician frequently utilizes laptop computers and diagnostic tools to access machine programs; the ability to troubleshoot, modify, and optimize PLC programming is a critical capability for success in this role.

 


Primary Responsibilities include:

  • PLC & Drive Programming, efficiently install, program, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley Variable Frequency Drives (including PF4, PF40, PF70, 523, and 525) and associated PLC networks.
  • System Maintenance, construct, install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot complex electrical systems, control panels, and automation components. 
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and retain information, methods, and processes
  • Instrumentation, Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot a wide variety of industrial sensors, including photo-eyes, proximity switches, and limit switches.
  • Diagnostics, utilize laptops and specialized software to interface with machinery, diagnose root causes of electrical failures, and implement programming logic changes as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and PM schedules on all production and facilities equipment to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Analyzing machine cycle times, motion, methods, and speed to identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement solutions.
  • Equipment changeovers, assist production personnel with equipment changeovers and setups to maximize throughput and meet strict production schedules.
  • Coordinate efforts with management, production, quality, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment utilization and foster a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Collaborate with outside contractors and vendors to source specialized parts, equipment, and technical support. 
  • Complete all required work orders, maintenance logs, and paperwork accurately. Assist in maintaining departmental objectives and aligning activities with budget guidelines.
  • Service response after-hours on call to troubleshoot and resolve urgent production issues. Responsibilities include maintaining a company phone, diagnosing problems remotely when possible, and traveling to job sites as needed. All dispatch and active working hours are fully compensated in accordance with hourly service calls wage.
  • Train and mentor fellow maintenance technicians and production operators on the safe, effective, and efficient operation of facility equipment. 
  • Workplace standards, maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and company safety protocols. 
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Industrial Electrician License, or at minimum 5 years of verifiable experience working as an Industrial Electrician or PLC Tech
  • Must be able to operate a forklift, manlift, and basic power tools.
  • Must have basic math abilities to calculate times, speeds, temperatures, etc.
  • Must have the ability to function as a team player under demanding circumstances.
  • Must have the ability to recognize and utilize the proper Personal Protective Equipment for specific tasks.
  • Must have current training in Hazcom; Welding, Cutting, and Brazing Safety; Forklift Safety; Confined Space Entry; and Electrical Safety.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and can multi-task
  • Must have excellent time management skills

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry

  • Basic understanding of computers and touch screen controls.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

 

FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

 

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

 

VISION: Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

 

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines and exhaust fans.
