Kelly Science & Clinical is excited to share this great opportunity as a Vivarium Technician II in a Research & Development Company in Alameda, CA.

  • Pay: $32-35/hour DOE

  • Shift: Day Shift

  • Monday-Friday, Plus additional hours weekend on rotational basis.

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for the husbandry and maintenance of animal holding and support areas within the vivarium. Assists in supporting the daily activities of the in vivo pharmacology program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain animal husbandry and housekeeping standards in animal holding and support areas.

  • Ensure compliance with study protocols, vivarium policies, and IACUC guidelines.

  • Perform daily clinical observations of animals, reporting findings to management and research staff.

  • Maintain accurate records and archives.

  • Prepare routine media, reagents, and custom solutions for departmental and research use.

  • Stock and distribute laboratory supplies and equipment for the assigned department.

  • Perform general laboratory maintenance, including collecting, washing, and storing procedure tools, as well as operating husbandry equipment.

  • Conduct animal dosing (PO, IV, IP, SC, etc.) of drug candidates, followed by blood and tissue collection for pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and efficacy evaluations.

  • Adhere to company health and safety policies and general laboratory practices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 4 years related experience; or,

  • Associate's degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience; or,

  • Bachelor's degree with zero or more years related experience; or,

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:

  • Experience with animal facility housekeeping, safety, and inventory procedures and records.

  • Experience with receiving and caging animals.

  • Familiarity with in vivo techniques including IV, IP, SC, PO, and blood collection techniques (e.g., tail vein, submandibular, cardiac puncture) and organ harvesting from laboratory small animals.

  • Experience handling and processing biological samples in a laboratory setting.

  • Basic computer skills including MS Word and MS Excel.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Basic understanding of animal handling techniques, theories, and practices.

  • Ability to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Proficient in writing simple correspondence and presenting information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.

  • Ability to work independently with general instruction on routine tasks and detailed instruction on new assignments.

  • Willingness and availability to work weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

JOB COMPLEXITY:

  • Works on semi-routine assignments where the ability to recognize deviations from accepted practices is required.

  • Applies job skills, company policies, and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
