Full time direct hire opportunity in Sterling Heights for a SR Buyer. 
10 plus years of experience with purchasing in the automotive industry.

$90,000 - $110,00k

Immediate need for a Senior Buyer located in Sterling Heights, MI to perform buying assignments of a complex nature requiring substantial experience in assigned commodities and purchasing policy and procedure. Buying assignments are as defined by the Director of Purchasing and in coordination with project requirements.

The buyer will have complete ownership in delivering results with limited supervision and guidance, a positive can-do and go-getter attitude. The buyer will have well developed skills in managing urgency, dealing with competing priorities, assertiveness and collaboration in negotiation, cost analysis and delivering results on a timetable, a technical aptitude suitable for facilitating technical reviews.

Requirements for the Position

  • College graduate with degree in business or related field with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an automotive Buyer or Technical Buyer purchasing position is preferred
  • Knowledge of Plastics, Die Casting, Stamping, and Metal Fabrication processes and related tooling is preferred
  • Experience within the automotive industry is an asset
  • Strong negotiation and cost analysis skills and understanding of cost structure are imperative
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, a bill of material, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to plan, organize and if necessary direct the work of other personnel
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and technical aptitude with the ability to professionally interact with suppliers and customers
  • Must have integrity and trustworthiness
  • Must have experience with supplier development
  • Experience in dealing with offshore sources is beneficial


Principal Duties:
  • Negotiate with assigned suppliers to reduce costs through rebates, LTA's, discounts, use of cost breakdown analysis, etc., and improve Working Capital drivers including lead times, payment terms and MOQ's
  • Source and select suppliers that ensure competitive quality, price, delivery and service at a price that maximizes company profit margins while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct. Manage supplier timing/project plans for new sourcing and any re-sourcing projects
  • Negotiate, coordinate and manage assigned tooling and material projects/programs from initiation through to production
  • Develop purchasing strategy for assigned commodities and sourcing projects
  • Visit supplier plants to perform facility and capability audits. Visit manufacturing plant 2-3 times per year
  • Scout for and investigate reliability of potential suppliers
  • Escalate and chair meetings with supplier and  Quality, Planning, Engineering or other function on critical part status including but not limited to quality issues, delivery delays, technical reviews, PPAP's and AQP
  • Keep immediate superior informed of programs along with the progress and/or related problems of such
  • Track and report current price trends, market conditions, tariff impacts, product delivery issues and lead-times for all key raw materials
  • Support project teams/engineers relative to advance purchasing and component deliverables. Attend meetings, manage assigned issues from team matrix
  • Search continuously for improved and/or less costly materials and supplies within the commodities assigned. Recommends to the engineering department new or different materials and revised designs which are felt to be better quality, more easily procured, or which can be obtained at a lower cost
  • Prepare and present recommendations and project plans to executive management and/or plant management with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
