Senior Accountant
Location: Detroit, MI
Pay Rate: $35-50/hour
Contract Type: Temporary to Hire

Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial operations for all or designated segments of the organization.
- Ensure that the organization has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.
- Maintain responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration.
- Provide short-term analysis of all financial information, forecast for future needs as well as provide long-term projections to support the growth of the organization.
- Create, monitor and maintain internal controls and safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Oversee all audit activity in conjunction with the CFO.
- Ensure the thorough and consistent analyzing of all financial data and creation of financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress, changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the organization's financial status.
- Assist management in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and reviews all financial plans and comparison to actual results.
- Prepare and process payroll.
- Actively engage in financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Partner with all department functions to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.
Qualifications:
- Extensive accounting and finance experience, starting in accounting/audit and progressing to financial reporting and presentation to executives and stakeholders.
- Preferably experienced in complex nonprofits with diverse activities.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- Proven ability to manage audits, reporting, budgeting, accounts, payroll, and investment accounting.
- Essential experience in grants management for compliance and reporting.
- Tech-savvy with a history of software management and vendor relations; expert in accounting/reporting software.
- Skill in building relationships across diverse backgrounds and communities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for conveying important data.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities for strategic interpretation.
- Capable of explaining financial concepts to all levels, including non-financial personnel.
