SUMMARY OF POSITION   
Responsible for the machining and fabrication of components for development igniters and spark plugs, as well as tooling and fixtures used within the laboratory. This is not a Production machining position, however it may include some work to assist Production at times. This position will also work in tandem with the development lab technician with testing and or assembly of development parts.
  PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Read and understand detailed drawings (including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate components.
  • Design and manufacture tooling, jigs, fixtures, and special tools required to manufacture igniters and spark plug components.
  • Develop fixturing and tooling needed for machining of components.
  • Provide technical input during the design phase of experimental igniters and spark plugs to improve machinability of the product.
  • Inspect components using various precision measuring instruments and techniques to ensure conformance to engineering requirements.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of different machine tools including but not limited to CNC and manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders to perform precision machining operations on a variety of materials.
  • Operate all machinery and tools in a safe manner in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain priorities of work established by the Product Engineering Development Lab Supervisor. 
ADDITIONAL AREAS OF SUPPORT
  • Perform qualification and functional testing of experimental igniters and spark plugs to engineering requirements to support qualification of the product.
  • Perform testing, disassembly and digital photography of igniters and spark plugs to support evaluation of field returned hardware.
  • Developmental assembly of prototype and short run builds of igniters and spark plugs as directed by Development Lab Supervisor. 
 
 
 
 
  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE  
  • Minimum educational requirement for this position is a two (2) year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • The individual must also possess a high level of mechanical aptitude. 
  • The successful candidate will be eager to tackle new challenges and have excellent organizational skills. 
  • Experience programming/operating CNC machining equipment to produce tightly tolerance parts is required.
  • Experience with 3d modeling using SolidWorks and converting models to G-code is desirable.
