Production Engineer
Location: Granite City, IL

Schedule: Monday to Friday | 1st Shift

A a well-established, rapidly growing aviation company with over 20 years of industry experience. We specialize in designing, assembling, and manufacturing high-quality aircraft brake discs and linings for the general and business aviation markets.
Position Overview:
As a Production Engineer, you will prepare design and certification data for replacement aircraft parts using reverse engineering practices in accordance with FAA AC 21.303-4. Your responsibilities will focus on ensuring design, material, and processing meet functional, safety, and manufacturing standards. You will build certification documents to demonstrate compliance for PMA (Parts Manufacturing Approval), while coordinating with internal and external teams and stakeholders. This autonomous, project-based role offers growth opportunities in engineering leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research part function, operating conditions, and failure modes (including criticality classification) to guide engineering decisions
- Draft sketches, models, and drawings of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Determine part tolerancing based on function, dimensions, manufacturability, and inspection requirements
- Specify materials and processes based on analysis and testing
- Prepare production drawings using ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T and internal standards
- Develop certification documents in accordance with FAA AC 21.303-4 and obtain FAA approval
- Provide engineering support for sales, procurement, manufacturing, and receiving teams
Required Experience & Skills:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in design, certification, or manufacturing
- CAD/3D modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred)
- Familiarity with aerospace specifications and processes
- Knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T
- Strong technical writing skills
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with aircraft components and systems strongly preferred
- Shop/hands-on experience preferred
- Reverse engineering experience preferred
- Understanding of FAA standards preferred
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
