Pathology Research Assistant
Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group has an opening for a Pathology Research Assistant for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Cincinnati, Ohio. - Schedule: On-site Monday through Friday 7am to 330pm
- Pay $23 an hour
To provide technical and logistical support to Preclinical studies Pathology phase. This role will assist with planning and execution of Pathology tasks, including but not limited to performing and/or assisting with the necropsy and histology phases of studies. Additionally, coordinates both internally and externally executed pathology phases and related materials generated during medical device testing.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate necropsies and tissue collection logistics with the Pathologist and the Preclinical Research team.
- Conduct or assist with animal necropsies, including set-up and associated routine and procedures.
- Record data obtained in studies according to established procedures. Ensures that records and raw data are properly maintained.
- Prepare identifying labels and photograph gross specimens, handle and manage collected tissue specimens (e.g., placement into fixative, freezer).
- Assist with tissue trimming/grossing, embedding, section using microtome, and staining of glass slides.
- Operate laboratory equipment (e.g., Faxitron, cassette printers, microscopes) and ensure its proper operation and maintenance.
- Request cost estimates from external vendors for histology processing and pathology evaluations, submit for Purchase Order (PO) generation and assist with finalizing invoices.
- Conduct inventory of pathology materials (e.g. fixed tissues, blocks, slides) and coordinate shipment.
- Prepare datasheets and forms, including but not limited to necropsy records, trim records, inventory of pathology materials and chain of custody forms.
- Conducts quality control of procedures performed including review of raw data and review and preparation of study materials to be archived.
- Maintain the necropsy room and histology lab clean and organized and inventory laboratory supplies and equipment and replenish stock as needed.
- Assist with review of SOPs in Pathology processes and related equipment.
- Associates degree is required.
- Experience working with large animals, preferably in a pathology and/or histology lab in a laboratory, research, or veterinary setting.
- The ability to understand and precisely follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Meticulous eye for detail; able to spot minor discrepancies/errors and immediately act to correct them.
- Proactively to set priorities and use time wisely to meet deadlines and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Excellent verbal, written, and/or interpersonal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or other closely related STEM field.
- Experience as a prosector.
- Experience working with large and/or small animal species.
- Experience in compliance and working knowledge of GLP regulated environment.
