Mechanical Engineer Job Description Location - Houston TX
Summary The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the successful design and qualification testing of downhole production tools for oil and gas wells to meet customer requirements. This role also includes the maintenance of existing designs. The candidate will provide technical expertise and leadership to the engineering team. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, hands-on, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components. Conduct analysis to evaluate the mechanical systems and components to meet project requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to team members in design, manufacturing, and operation.
- Generate layouts and detailed engineering calculations for new and modified equipment designs.
- Actively participate in development design reviews and make “best choice” recommendations.
- Participate in developing design and installation specifications and commissioning plans.
- Lead the assembly and lab testing of prototypes for product qualification.
- Review part and assembly drawings and advise on assembly and manufacturability.
- Develop acceptance tests and inspection criteria for evaluating equipment and technical MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations).
- Generate documentation of specification, assembly, and repair of new products.
- Troubleshoot field-related challenges and provide best practices for field operations.
- Initiate, check, and approve change notices, test requests, and write test reports.
- Work with minimal supervision and capable of leading a project.
- Maintain a strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
- Travel to field locations to support engineering testing as needed.
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years (10 years or greater preferred) experience in new product development.
- Experience in the design of gas production and separation tools and other downhole completion tools is preferred, but not required.
- Experience in sand management is preferred but not required.
- Experience in the full lifecycle of product development, including concept, design, drawing, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, field deployment, and sustaining.
- Experience in building test setups required to validate the performance of the product against requirements.
- Ability to work “hands-on” in a test lab and/or manufacturing facility.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design and engineering practices, both practical and analytical.
- Knowledge of material selection of metals, seals, and standard hardware.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, i.e., casting, machining, heat treating, and fabrication along with the assembly process.
- Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated strong independent decision-making skills.
- Experience with 3D modeling software. SolidWorks is preferred.
- Must have strong computer skills, including JIRA, SAP, Net Suite, and Microsoft Office.
- General knowledge of project management, reliability engineering, and root cause analysis.
