Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) Technician

Kelly Science has an opening for a Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) Technician for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a benefited position—eligible for medical benefits, paid time off (vacation, sick time, holidays), 401K, tuition reimbursement, and annual performance reviews.

Training Monday- Friday
Regular schedule
- Saturday and Sunday and three additional week days
Hours 7am -3:30pm
Pay $19.00 to $20.00 an hour depening on experience

Responsibilities
  • Work in a complex and highly regulated environment providing humane care for laboratory animals supporting education and research labs.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping in accordance with regulatory and departmental requirements (Animal Welfare Act, GLP, USDA, AAALAC, IACUC, and client policies).
  • Perform daily animal health observations and identify abnormalities, completing documentation and reporting to veterinary and scientific staff.
  • Conduct required veterinary treatments including parental administration of treatments/drugs.
  • Assist Attending Veterinarian, Study Directors, and/or Research Assistants with physical exams, routine weight checks, technical procedures, and critical pre/post-operative treatments and observations.
  • Clean and sanitize large animal pens, equipment, rooms, and ancillary spaces according to regulatory schedules.
  • Provide animal husbandry: food, water, and environmental enrichment to research animals.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and analytical instruments, maintaining proper operation and maintenance.
  • Collect and enter data into various electronic databases to support research projects.
  • Proactively order and maintain inventory of vivarium supplies, including pharmacy, food, and enrichment.
  • Participate in required annual health surveillance—including blood-borne pathogen training and respirator fit-testing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, zoology, or similar field preferred; high school diploma required.
  • Animal care experience preferred (large animals).
  • Adherence to good documentation practices.
  • Ability to execute scientific protocols.
  • Excellent organizational and math skills.
  • Ability to consistently follow directions and work under pressure.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift 50 lbs unassisted.
  • ALAT, LAT, or LATG certifications are considered (not required).
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, respirator fit, and hearing tests.
