Kelly is seeking experienced Industrial General Superintendents

Position Summary
Industrial Superintendents are responsible for the overall work performance of all crews and craft discipline workers on a job site. 
Overseen Craft disciplines may be Mechanical (piping, equipment [stationary or rotating], structural steel, etc.), Electrical and Instrumentation (cable tray, wire pulls, terminations, etc.), Soft Crafts (scaffolding, paint, insulation, etc.), or any other Division (Pipe Shop, Paint Shop, etc.) as specified for the project or client needs. If Specialty Subcontractors are required for the execution of the work, then the Superintendent is a key coordinator for the Subcontractor's inter-woven activities at the work fronts.
Superintendents are responsible and accountable for the safety, quality, and resource allocation requirements of the assigned construction activities in support of all work fronts.
Primary Job Functions
Superintendents are primarily responsible for supporting the plan of all components of construction workflows, materials, or other resources designated by the Construction Manager (CM) Plans that are to be converted into efficient execution in the field by General Foremen, Foreman, and Craft Workers.
Superintendents are responsible and accountable for General Foreman and Foremen identifying the tools, information, material, and subcontractor needs of their assigned work fronts and communicating those needs in a timely manner to the Construction Manager (CM) for endorsement and procurement.
Superintendents are responsible for ensuring the materials, tools, equipment, or specialty subcontract resources planned into the work Three Week Look Aheads (3wkLAs) are being provided to their General Formen and Foremen work fronts through material "pick tickets" or whatever means of communicating the needs to the material handling group (internal or external to RCI), through timely equipment rentals, or through timely subcontract scope development and quotations required to support the work fronts. 
Superintendents ensure the required execution Information (Drawings, Package Details, etc.) is available to the General Foremen, Foremen, and Craft in a timely manner for field planning and installation.
Superintendents ensure that company owned or rented equipment and tools are also available to the General Foremen and Foremen in a timely manner in support of the 3wkLA work fronts.
Superintendents ensure that any Specialty Subcontract needs outside of the core RCI direct craft execution capabilities are identified in advance and properly planned for Scope of Work (SOW) development and proposal solicitation so that proper Service Orders (SOs) can be administered from Home Office Support functions.
Superintendents coordinate and cooperate with all other RCI disciplines or non-RCI disciplines that are working adjacent to assigned tasks.
Superintendents shall ensure that General Foremen and Foremen are identifying non-constructable items in their work fronts and accurately communicating the issues for Requests For Information (RFI) processing. Superintendents shall mentor their crews when issues are found to recommend fixes when the RFI is documented, if possible. Once an RFI response is received, the Superintendent, General Foreman, and Foremen, shall provide estimates of required labor hours, necessary materials, equipment, tools, or other resources that may be required to develop a Change Notification or Change Order before executing the specified fixes.
Bottom Line: Superintendents ensure the Safety, Quality, and Production (Plan/Actual/Schedule Mangement) of their Crews!

  • Pro-active communication with Safety and Quality to ensure required resources are available
  • Pro-active communication with Project Controls for progress tracking and schedule reporting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Clients in support of field activities and progress plans
  • Must be well rounded and knowledgeable in all discipline activities required for the job site
  • Attends End Of Shift (EOS) Daily Coordination Meetings with all disciplines for planning adjustments, new need communications, or for critical material deliveries required
  • Ensure all high value or inspection controlled tools are returned daily to tool trailers for review and re-issue at the next day or night shift needed
  • Audit and Verify all Sign-In Sheets and Time Sheets for appropriate Job Numbers and Work Phase Codes for accuracy of both Pay Roll and Work Progress Allocation
  • Review and ensure Equipment Rental Logs are accurately updated
  • Participate in Work Package Walks and Reviews, Pre-Hydro Walks, Hydrotests, and Post-Hydrotest Re-Instatement Walks for Zero-Punch List System Deliveries to Clients
Qualification Highlights:
  • Must be able to read prints and illustrate thorough knowledge of construction procedures and skills relevant to the craft discipline to be managed
  • Must have good leadership, team building, and communication skills
  • Must have prudent and reasonable judgment of the craft personnel and tasks to be executed by them
  • Must be able to support their team with proper feedback and coaching on both things done well and issues that require improvement or re-assessment; key aspects being mentoring and coaching
  • Demonstrates problem solving capabilities when deviations from plan occur
  • Must have experience on an industrial construction project
  • Must be able to develop performance improvement plans for craft or tasks 
  • Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
  • Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide a positive and respectful workplace for all employees to contribute to the success of your team

  • Ensure safety job assessments and work tasks are evaluated for risks and engage the employees on the identification and mitigation of risks to themselves and others
  • Ensure Stop Work Authority and Incident Reporting expectations are enabled in the team's expectations
  • Understand the quality aspects of the work package, pro-actively manage the work and the craft in their best performance, minimize re-work, and pro-actively coordinate with Quality Control or Quality Assurance personnel, as required, to achieve a "zero-punchlist" or minimal punch list work package deliverable for the organization
  • Read engineered drawings and specifications to plan and coordinate the scope of work or assigned work package for construction or installation
  • Plan and ensure the required tools, information, and material are available for use by your craft team each day
  • Plan and ensure that all required Permits required by the Owner/Client are identified and submitted at least one (1)  day prior to need to enable efficient work starts every day
  • Identify and communicate issues with materials that do not meet specifications, fit in required spaces, are lacking expectations of provided Bills of Material (BOM), etc., and be able to communicate the deficiencies to your Supervision in a timely manner
  • Identify and communicate issues with designs that are non-constructable and require timely generation of Requests For Information (RFIs) to ensure constructable designs with efficiency
  • Plan the work and work the plan
Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance history experience
  • Ability to read prints and construction drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, manufacturers manuals, and instructions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the craft discipline to be managed
  • Must have 6+ years of experience with the craft discipline to be managed
  • Good problem-solving abilities and craft math skills
  • Good aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Good reading comprehension
  • Ability to work with others - Team player
  • Ability to work independently - minimal supervision, reliable performer
  • Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors
  • Commitment to Richard values, safety rules, and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) former employee from a Reduction of Force (ROF)
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certifications
  • Formal/Technical education
Candidate Possession of Required Tools:
  • 1 - Safety Toed Boots
Physical Requirements:
  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
  • Will talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of tools, machinery parts and controls
  • Able to use arms and hands to signal, grad, hold, turn, and push or pull objects such as materials, controls, and tools
  • Will be required to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms
  • Will work at heights up to 300 feet utilizing proper fall protection devices
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short distances, see colors, possess depth perception and peripheral vision
  • Must be capable or working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs, safety vests, gloves, steel toe/safety toe boots, and masks/respirators
