Kelly® Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a direct hire position with a Lisle, IL based R&D team that is a division of a larger consumer electronics company. Overview 
 
Our client develops IoT life safety products for residential and commercial applications. They utilize WiFi & voice activated technology in their products.
 
In this role you'll work in a hybrid (3 days in office) environment and be responsible for designing custom electrical hardware for low voltage, battery powered consumer electronic products. You will collaborate with cross-functional internal and external teams in the areas of design & development, test and support the manufacture of embedded microprocessor-based circuits; provide failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA); validation/verification plans and reports; cost analysis; assist and support development team during technical design reviews; and provide technical support for regulatory testing and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with marketing and cross-functional engineering teams to define product features and requirements.
  • Contribute to defining electrical platform architecture to implement in new products as well as help create technical specification from product requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to propose, negotiate and design electrical hardware that meets or exceeds product specification requirements of life safety products.  This includes, but is not limited to schematic design, PCB layout design, prototyping, testing and debugging digital and analog electrical hardware.
  • Electrical bring-up, debug, and validation of analog and digital designs.
  • Create test documentation and perform electrical verification testing as required.
  • Work with internal teams and external contract manufacturers to bring products to mass production.
  • Track and report on product costs and associated component sourcing risks.
  • Define and implement electrical hardware release and revision control best practices and policies.

Qualifications:
  • Engineering degree is required; B.S in either Electrical, Computer, Electronic, or Hardware Engineering or related field.  Master's degree in related field is a plus.
  • Prefer 5 to 10 years' experience designing electrical hardware for consumer electronic products from concept, test, certification, component/supplier selection, manufacturing launch.
    • Experience designing products with low voltage battery power and battery life extension considerations experience preferred.
  • Experience designing electrical systems utilizing 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit MCU's, ARM processors.
  • Experience in processor peripheral interfaces (SDIO, I2C, SPI, RS232, Parallel and Serial/UART, storage).
  • Experience with analog and digital electrical design.
  • Experience with sensors and transducer design.
  • Strong working knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity.
  • Experience designing low cost, reliable electrical platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of best practices for PCB layout and construction. Proficient in PCB layout using either PADS, Altium and/or OrCAD is a plus. 
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly experience. Proven track record of taking designs through manufacturing.
  • Ability to perform simple mechanical/electrical assembly for quick prototyping.
  • Experience with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multi-meters.
  • Proficient in status reporting, communicating technical data/results and issues, impacts, and corrective actions.
  • Experience designing products to meet UL2034 and/or UL217 a strong plus.
  • Experience in Waterfall and/or Agile NPD processes is a strong plus.
