Description
Under the direction of the IT Leadership Team, the Director of Inpatient Applications will have broad oversight with respect to the clinical applications used in the acute care space and across the larger Keck Medicine of USC enterprise. Incumbent will manage the inpatient build teams, the clinical support teams and teams engaged in developing and implementing solutions that support the acute care environment. Incumbent will be responsible for the complete life cycle of clinical systems in this domain with focus on workflow based design, effective implementation of vendor tools, promulgation of rigorous quality assurance cycles and construction of a durable ongoing support and user feedback structures. Incumbent will be responsible for managing the relationship with key enterprise vendors with respect to new acute care solution offerings. Collaborates with the larger IT leadership team and has a broad view of IT strategic direction. Ensures continuity of IT initiatives across the entire patient experience.
Essential Duties:
- Supervision (includes hiring, counseling, coaching, terminating, etc.) Evaluation of performance of staff in a timely manner. Scheduling of staff according to scope of services and budgetary requirements. Work independently with little or no supervision. Knowledge of employee rights.
- Goals and Objectives Establish and implement goals and objectives consistent with the hospital's mission and vision and plans.
- Budget Establish annual departmental budget including contract reviews as required. Manage to budget effectively and explain variances.
- Policies and Procedures Develop, revise, interpret, and enforce hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Implement policies and procedures by effectively working with personnel. Evaluate systems to determine whether or not current policies and procedures are functioning and makes changes when necessary.
- Communication Communicate effectively intra and interdepartmentally. Communicate effectively with the team and internal and external customers. Provide timely follow-up to both written and verbal requests for information, including voicemail and email.
- Performance Improvement Continuously assess and improve departmental performance. Knowledge and implementation of performance improvement methodologies and processes. Implement changes to improve processes as needed both inter and intra departmentally.
- Education/Continuing Education Knowledge of hospital education and orientation requirements. Orient and train new staff. Develop and monitor an education plan for the department. Assess educational needs of hospital departments and staff for those applications support by the department. Assess departmental needs for growth and education.
- Department Operations Set department priorities in alignment with IT and Keck Medicine goals and objectives. Monitors departmental progress toward goals and ensures projects are managed to completion.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Administration.
Required Qualifications:
- Req Bachelor's degree Degree in related field
- Req 5 years Experience in managing IT applications.
- Req Must have experience in electronic health record deployment and management.
- Req Must have Management experience.
- Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
- Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
- Req Commitment to continuous quality improvement and results driven outcomes.

- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $174,720.00 - $288,288.00.
