Kamehameha Schools, Hawai'i Campus is currently looking for a Career Liaison for High School. This is a Defined Term position that is anticipated to go through 12/31/2025. We are seeking candidates who are available to work on an open-ended basis, potentially for a long duration. (Defined Term roles are eligible for benefits.)
Our ideal candidate will have a Master's degree, and 3+ years of experience in school and career counseling.
This position is at our Hawai'i campus in Kea'au.
Job SummaryNetwork externally in the private sector to assist in the development of the career academy concept including business representatives serving on the respective career academy advisory boards, placement for student internships and input in the development of the total career academy program and its relationship with the academic program and Hawai`i Island community. Responsible to conduct on-site visits with business and community partners. Organize, implement, monitor and evaluate internships, career related experiences and enrichment programs relevant to the students' career pathway choices.
Essential ResponsibilitiesNetwork externally in the private sector to assist in the development of the career academy concept including business representatives serving on the respective career academy advisory boards, placement for student internships and input in the development of the total career academy program and its relationship with the academic program and Hawai`i Island community. Responsible to conduct on-site visits with business and community partners.
Organize, implement, monitor and evaluate internships, career related experiences and enrichment programs relevant to the students' career pathway choices.
Assists students and parents in the development of realistic personal expectations for achievement and progress related to students career goals. Consults, facilitates and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and business/industry partners on specific student, parent and partnership concerns. Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's concerns and problems.
- Advise parents and students regarding available financial aid and continuing education services through internal and external resources.
- Prepares periodic reports summarizing and evaluating all student activities related to career experiences. Plans, sets goals, and lists recommendations for the following year.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
- Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience with school and career counseling or a closely related field.
- Valid Driver's License
- Interpersonal skills to interact with wide audience to include students, family members, business & community partners, and those who provide post secondary opportunities.
- Demonstrate ability to provide effective academic and career counseling.
- Communication skills to prepare written reports & student narratives. Knowledge of post-secondary, academic support & counseling services & community resources.
- Database management skills to organize and manage work-based learning contacts, placements and evaluations.
- Knowledge of various social, psychological, and economic factors that influence the behavior & attitudes of the target population.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with career counseling.
- Ability to positively represent the image and reputation of Kamehameha Schools in the community and promote opportunities for beneficial partnerships.
- Proven experience with business and community networking.
- Previous experience in providing direct services to target population.
- Knowledge of community, secondary and post-secondary resources.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity with Hawaiian Culture and Christian Values.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required especially for the boarding community (e.g. dormitory visits, chapel on Sunday mornings) to meet goals and objectives.
