PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • Have direct ownership of identifying by site and entire route on the ideal market hogs according to system weight targets.  While reducing individual pig weight variation, minimizing sort loss, and maximizing percentage of pigs to a primary packer.  All while implementing and suggesting changes to a given marketing strategy by barn to meet system targets. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct routine site visits to ensure that marketing previews, marketing plans, identification of top weight hogs, and loading accuracy are being done according to ISF protocols and expectations 
  • Execute and implement strategies to achieve marketing and economic goals of the company and specific geographic area including production performance, revenue and marketing, and cost management KPI's.
  • Communicate cross functionally on issues identified or concerns that need to be address by another area of the business.  
  • Forecast, select and mark hogs for market.
  • Assure site managers/load crews have necessary supplies, tools, and facilities to load market hogs out of the site at the time that is to be completed 
  • Work with transportation department on the loads that need to be rescheduled that will achieve Establishing a marketing plan that maximizes overall average weights and meets or exceeds targets for standard deviations and coefficient of variation targets on all non-closeout loads. 
  • Understanding of ideal market weights and works to adjust marketing dates through marketing preview site visits and physical weighing of pigs when needed 
  • Reduce sort loss premiums for individual pigs and well as loads sent to packing plants while maintaining emphasis on achieving or exceeding percentage of full value market hogs to packing plants
  • Develop and implement marketing plans by site.  Training includes but not limited to technical production skills, building and site maintenance, and development of finish supervisors, independent contractors, and ISF direct employees.
  • Monitor overall health of pigs and communicate with Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor on what is happening in the field. 
  • Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
  • Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies in a timely manner.
  • Work with supervisors to identify animals needing timely euthanasia.
  • Complete euthanasia process according to ISF protocols.
  • Assist leader in strategy development and continuous improvement 
  • Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to walk into barns by start time given.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor.

 

COMPANY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Adhere to Iowa Select Farms bio-security policy at all times which includes reporting any violations or concerns to management team
  • Compliance with Iowa Select Farms safety policies and procedures which includes continuous education to maintain a safe work environment 
  • Follow Iowa Select Farms animal wellbeing policy at all times and partner with the Production Well-being team in a timely manner if an incident occurs

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position in-directly supervises employees and contractors and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work responsibilities for others
  • Coordinates with human resources to respond to employee concerns or complaints.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees or contractors as needed and in accordance with company policy
  • Rewarding employees in the form of positive feedback and utilization of company programs when performance in key areas is high. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position may require some tasks to be performed in outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  
  • The environment you will be working will have nuisance levels of gasses and dust, particularly in the winter months 

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates
  • Ability to climb in and out of livestock trailers that can be as short as 48 inches in height

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week 
  • Expected days and hours of operation include day-shift hours Monday-Fridays
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges 

 

TRAVEL

  • Regular travel will be required for this position which entails the utilization of a company vehicle

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Previous experience in swine production operations is desired.
  • Computer knowledge/ skills- able to run reports, data entry, email, word documents, excel documents, and able to navigate the tools site to be able to find important company documents.
