PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Purpose of the Sow Production Supervisor role is to lead a team of Sow Managers to deliver upon the expected productivity and efficiency of their associated sow herds in support of the greater goals of Iowa Select Farms production business.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct and daily supervision of Farm Management, including performance in production operations and team leadership.
- Provide necessary training, guidance, and response to advance both the productivity and efficiency of assigned herds as well as the capability of the teams.
- Offer routine reviews of opportunities apparent within each herd through diligent and thorough farm visits.
- Promote and demonstrate sound animal husbandry, animal handling and animal health practices, in accordance with common industry-defined standards of care.
- Plan, organize, and ensure delivery on any projects, health-related or otherwise, that are decidedly implemented within the ISF sow production system.
- Work directly with Farm Management and HR resources to effectively recruit, train, retain, motivate, and develop on-farm staff.
- Work directly with Farm Management and veterinary staff to identify and respond to any/all adverse herd health events.
- Serve as an effective conduit to support functions that are necessary partners to Farm Management to ensure adequate resources are available to the farm and strong/productive relationships are maintained across the relevant business functions.
- Serve as contingency to Farm Management should there be a vacant role or should there be an urgent necessity, i.e. after-hours alarm calls.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Will oversee a team of Sow Managers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is performed indoors.
- This job operates in an office that is climate controlled and includes hazards typical to that environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
- The environment you will be working in may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months
- The environment of this position will change daily pending weekly schedule.
- This position may require some tasks to be performed in extreme outside weather conditions.
- This position will have duties in all facilities of Iowa Select Farms so employees will need to be comfortable working in and being exposed to all facility environments.
- Occasional visits to farm sites following all biosecurity protocols
PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- Ability to read and write.
- The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
- The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.
- Direct contact with animals may occur, so employees must be willing and able to comply with all biosecurity process.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
- Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
- Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement.
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand.
- This is a full-time position with the expected working days of Monday-Friday
- On Call weekend/ holiday rotation is required.
TRAVEL.
- Local travel will be required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle.
- Occasional overnight travel might be required for necessary events that pertain to this position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual: Preferred
- Education/ Experience: Either a bachelor's degree in animal science (or related field) or at least five years previous experience in swine production operations. Experience in direct employee supervision is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
