The transportation technologies team provides the transportation industry with the confidence that its products and services meet required safety and quality standards. The team's services cover all aspects of clients' needs from advisory, auditing, certification and inspection to outsourcing, quality assurance, testing, training and more.

Under general supervision the Engineering Aide troubleshoots, operates, repairs, analysis equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electronics problems, including the engine controls and stand instrumentation. Works with Engineers to run engine emissions and durability test programs.

DUTIES:

  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots engine exhaust emissions analysis equipment (including CVS), engine control equipment and test cell instrumentation.

  • Performs engine emissions analysis equipment calibrations and system verifications.

  • Analyzes test results for conformity to engine emissions test requirements.

  • Assists in various mechanical installations (equipment, test articles, etc.).

  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical problem solving assistance.

  • Occasional interface with external customers relative to result and status reporting.

  • Assists in test cell operation in support of engine durability and emissions test programs. This may include (but is not limited to): performing engine blow-by maps, running pre-defined test sequences on the dynamometer, running standardized tests, and monitoring test data/operation.

  • Support and assist in the organization and cleanliness of the test cell environment, equipment, and test specimens.

  • Responsible for complying with departmental ISO procedures.

  • Other duties as specified by the supervisor.

  • Troubleshoots mechanical and instrumentation problems, shares “on-call” responsibilities with supervisor; provides technical assistance during off-duty hours via telephone; responds to on-site assistance requests from supervisory or engineering staff.

  • To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company's Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.



Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • HS Diploma or GED.

  • 1+ years' experience.

  • Demonstrated verifiable automotive repair/testing experience required.

  • Thorough knowledge automotive troubleshooting procedures, automotive systems and testing essential.

  • Hands on mechanical experience preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communications.

  • Skills in technical writing, computer systems and software (Excel) essential.

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of engine exhaust emissions test equipment preferred but not required.

  • Experience with operation of an engine dynamometer test stand is preferred but not required.

  • Competency in PC usage, including spreadsheet, word processing, and data analysis programs desired

  • Experience with test control and data acquisition automated interface (LabView).

  • Exposure to heat and fumes.

  • Required to wear ear plugs, safety shoes, and safety glasses in specified areas.
