Description

Position Description: 

Learn the legal side of the fast-growing space industry at global satellite services provider Intelsat.  Work on US and international regulatory, corporate, commercial, government relations, and other legal matters in a fast-paced environment.  Gain knowledge about the operational, technical and business aspects of the space industry while working on legal issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • US Regulatory Projects:   Assist in preparing filings at the FCC, including earth station and satellite related applications and requests for authority, comments in regulatory proceedings, and notices of ex parte communications with FCC staff.  Research FCC rules and orders to support regulatory filings.  Work with business and technical teams to ensure compliance with FCC rules for operation of satellites, ground stations and acquisition and use of communications equipment.   Assist in preparation of filings with Team Telecom national security agencies in response to data requests, and filings related to the clearance of personnel, outsourced/offshore commercial vendors, and equipment.  Assist with other regulatory matters, which may include FAA and other regulatory issues.
  • International Regulatory Projects:  Assist with obtaining licensing, landing rights, and other authorizations to provide satellite services in jurisdictions around the world.  Assist in participation in regulatory consultations with foreign regulators.  Assist business teams with regulatory questions arising from delivery of service in foreign jurisdictions.   
  • Corporate Legal Projects:  Assist with drafting, reviewing and analyzing corporate documents and agreements, board resolutions for Intelsat group entities for periodic corporate actions, and intercompany agreements for intercompany services and funding. Assist with internal entity streamlining project.
  • Commercial Legal Projects: Assist in drafting/ reviewing/analyzing various commercial contracts for global customers, vendors, and partners. Perform legal research related to various contract provisions and data privacy issues . Assist in creating various contract templates to ensure consistency among various business units. Track and analyze sanctions regimes, including in the UK,US, EU. 
  • Government Relations Projects: Assist in maintaining and updating our outside group contact matrix. This would include working with the outward-facing Intelsat entities (including the business units as well as regulatory, spectrum and government affairs) to identify the groups we work with around the world, how much support we provide to each, their importance to Intelsat, and who are the primary and secondary contact points.
  • Assist in attending policy conferences and meetings on space and satellite policy and reporting back on important takeaways and developments. 
  • Assist in meeting preparation, drafting slides and presentations supporting Intelsat Government Solutions. 

Preferred Qualifications: (in addition to the requirements below)

  • Must have strong analytical ability 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Essential to be willing to learn new concepts in law, regulation and technical matters.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, take initiative to explore new areas of learning, highly desired.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Current law student in good standing, enrolled in a accredited law school, pursuing a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity in the workplace
  • Effective communicator in both written and spoken English
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of MSOffice Suite
  • 3.0 GPA or above preferred

Summer Intern Program Description:

  • Paid internship;12 weeks starting on Monday, May 26, 2025 through August 15, 2025
  • Schedule - 40 hours/week, Monday- Friday, 9 – 5 or regular core hours
  • Hybrid environment (minimum 3 days in office location)
