Description

The Data Steward is responsible for maintaining accurate, consistent, and governed product data within Harbor Freight's Product Information Management (PIM) system (STEP). This role ensures product data integrity across enterprise systems and supports the product lifecycle by partnering closely with Merchandising, eCommerce, IT, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to maintain enterprise data standards, item setup accuracy, and operational readiness.
In addition to maintaining product data, this role supports initiatives focused on strengthening data governance, validation processes, workflow management, and scalable data practices within STEP. The Data Steward monitors data quality, enforces business rules and governance standards, resolves data discrepancies, and drives process improvements that support operational efficiency and data consistency across the organization.
This role also supports master data governance efforts by maintaining product attributes, hierarchies, classifications, and related content throughout the product lifecycle. The Data Steward collaborates with cross-functional teams on process enhancements, data audits, issue resolution, and documentation to improve the quality and reliability of enterprise product data.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and process-driven, with experience managing complex product data within a PIM or master data environment. This individual should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment while balancing daily execution with continuous improvement and data governance initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and governed product data within STEP and related enterprise systems.
  • Support end-to-end item setup, maintenance, and product lifecycle management processes.
  • Ensure product attributes, hierarchies, classifications, and related content align with established business rules and governance standards.
  • Monitor and audit product data quality to identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, and process gaps.
  • Investigate and resolve data issues in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  • Support workflow management, approvals, validations, and governance controls within STEP.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, eCommerce, IT, Supply Chain, Operations, and other business partners to ensure data accuracy and operational readiness.
  • Document data standards, processes, procedures, and governance guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in data governance initiatives and support scalable master data management practices.
  • Assist with reporting, data analysis, and audits related to product data quality and compliance.
  • Support testing and validation activities related to system enhancements, process changes, and integrations.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $82,700 – $124,000 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Data Management, or a related field preferred.
Years of Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in product data management, master data management, data governance, or related roles.
Skills
  • Experience with PIM, MDM, ERP, or related enterprise systems; STEP experience preferred.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, workflow management, enterprise system integrations, and how corporate platforms integrate with STEP.
  • Familiarity with corporate data structures, data lakes, product taxonomy, hierarchy management, and related product data structures.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data governance frameworks and master data management best practices.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, operational efficiency, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL, reporting tools, or data validation tools is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage large data sets and multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to identify trends, recommend solutions, and drive data quality improvements.
  • Comfortable working within evolving systems, processes, and governance frameworks.
Physical Requirements
Corporate - Remote - General office environment requiring ability to:
  • Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time .
  • Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone and video conferencing.
  • Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports.
  • The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
