​​​Perform any combination of painting sealing and finishing duties described in the essential functions to maintain and repair University property using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment. Work in a variety of settings, including dormitories, food service areas, administrative offices, academic buildings and outdoors.​

The budgeted annual salary that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position is $43,756 – $51,478. The full internal range is $43,756 – $59,200

Essential Functions

  • ​​​​​Operate hand and power tools, compressors, sprayers, and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Use sound judgment to analyze surface maintenance painting or finishing situations and determine the appropriate action to be taken, within limits of standard practice. Identify potential problems that require corrective action.
  • Plan and perform maintenance duties in a timely manner according to schedules, utilizing knowledge of University maintenance policies and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Power washing and cleaning materials and techniques.
    • Painting, brush, roller, or spray application techniques for all types of materials familiar to painting trade.
    • Taping, sanding, texturing and finishing drywall surfaces.
    • Layout and applying wall coverings and fabrics.
    • Seal and protect all types of surfaces including wood, steel, concrete, brick, metal paneling, plaster. etc.
    • Finishing or refinishing furniture or woodwork.
    • Designing, creating, installing University signs utilizing University guidelines.
  • Procure necessary parts and equipment utilizing University resources (warehouse) and appropriate outside vendors.
  • The ability to convert an idea, identified by a customer, into a functional end product.
  • Fills in after-hours and on weekends as required. Subject to after-hour callbacks for emergencies.
  • Essential functions listed here require the physical and environmental demands in order to carry out these duties. ​

  • Participate positively in department meetings, training activities, continuing education programs and other associated department activities.
  • The ability to perform skills in other maintenance crafts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years work experience (appropriate trade school education or course work may substitute.)
  • ​Knowledge of building maintenance, repair techniques, and materials.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use various power equipment, including sprayers, compressors, hand tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions related to the building and maintenance trades.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting to complete daily activities according to work schedule received from the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to analyze maintenance painting related repairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine the appropriate action in resolving an issue, within the protocol and standard practice.
  • Valid driver's license; proven driving ability with good driving record.
  • Ability to work on weekends, shift work, overtime, and on-call.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical as required for the position.

  • ​​Frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather, dirt, and dust.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Extensive use of back, arms, and legs required to perform various job tasks.
  • Ability to operate power equipment including vehicles and forklifts.
  • Ability to handle routine exposure to chemicals, aerosols, thinners, solvents, paints, and various types of building materials.
  • Work in various positions including standing for long periods of time and occasionally working at elevated heights.
  • Ability to be mobile campus-wide for appropriate business needs.
