Description

Fusion Education Group is a mission‑driven, growing organization that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Our technology teams play a critical role in enabling business outcomes through scalable, secure, and modern systems. We foster a culture where developers influence architecture decisions and deliver high‑impact solutions.

We are seeking an Innovation Engineer to bridge the gap between emerging technology and real enterprise value. This role is for an engineer who can experiment with purpose, rapidly prototype ideas, pressure-test them against security, scalability, and cost constraints, then turn the best ideas into repeatable, production-grade enterprise solutions. The Innovation Engineer designs, prototypes, and operationalizes AI-enabled and enterprise-scale solutions that improve efficiency, unlock new capabilities, and accelerate how the organization delivers value.

This role sits at the intersection of:

  • AI and automation
  • Enterprise systems and platforms
  • Business process modernization

You will work closely with engineering, data, and business leaders to:

  • Identify high-value opportunities
  • Build proof-of-value solutions
  • Transition successful innovations into scalable, supported systems

This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, highly curious, and comfortable moving from whiteboard to production.

What You'll Do:

Innovation & Rapid Delivery

  • Identify opportunities where emerging technology (AI, automation, cloud services) can materially improve business outcomes
  • Rapidly prototype solutions to validate feasibility, value, and risk
  • Lead proof-of-concept (PoC) and pilot initiatives with a clear path to production
  • Translate ambiguous ideas into working software and systems

AI & Intelligent Systems

  • Design, lead and implement production-grade enterprise AI solutions, including:
    • LLM-powered applications
    • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems
    • ML/AI services embedded in distributed systems
    • Intelligent workflow automation
  • Select appropriate AI approaches (classical ML, deep learning, LLMs, heuristics) based on cost, performance, and risk
  • Integrate AI models into existing applications via APIs, event streams, or microservices

Enterprise Solutions Engineering

  • Architect solutions that integrate with existing enterprise platforms and systems
  • Ensure innovations meet enterprise standards for:
    • Security
    • Scalability
    • Observability
    • Reliability
  • Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to produce successful solutions

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand problems worth solving
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Share learnings, patterns, and reusable components with engineering teams
  • Help shape standards and guardrails for future innovation efforts

Observability, Testing & Reliability

  • Implement logging, tracing, and metrics specific to AI systems
  • Monitor model performance, drift, latency, and failure modes
  • Build automated testing strategies for AI behavior, not just code correctness
  • Troubleshoot production issues across distributed systems

Security, Compliance & Responsible AI

  • Apply security best practices across AI systems (auth, secrets, access control)
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and AI governance requirements
  • Participate in responsible AI practices, including transparency and risk mitigation

What We're Looking For:

Technical Experience

  • Strong experience designing and building end-to-end applications and systems
  • Proficiency in one or more modern languages (e.g., Python, C#, .NET)
  • Experience working in cloud environments (Azure preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with AI tools and platforms (e.g., Azure AI services, OpenAI-style APIs)
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying AI or ML-based systems
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Machine learning fundamentals
    • LLM concepts (tokens, embeddings, context windows, hallucinations)

Core Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and business audiences
  • Ability to rapidly learn and evaluate new technologies
  • Bias toward action, experimentation, and measurable outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with:
    • Azure OpenAI Service
    • Semantic search and vector databases
    • Kubernetes and orchestration platforms
  • Background in MLOps or AIOps
  • Knowledge of AI observability and monitoring frameworks
  • Experience building internal developer platforms or AI enablement tools
  • Familiarity with regulatory or compliance-driven environments
  • Ability to balance innovation with security, compliance, and operational realities
