Job Description

Flex Cork in Ireland is a central manufacturing and logistics point in the global Flex network. On site we offer manufacturing, innovation and integration services as well as forward and reverse logistics offerings.

As Data Scientist (m/f/d) you will be based in Cork, Ireland. In this role you will be part of the Centre of Excellence Control Tower team which oversees the Supply Chain & Transport Orchestration Platform for customer freight flows from origin to destination. You will be responsible for modelling complex business problems and uncovering business insights via the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.

Together with other highly skilled business and data experts in the field of logistics and supply chain you will take a central role in designing and ensuring best processes, practices as well as continuous development of the global platform. You will have the opportunity to actively disrupt and influence old systems and structures and drive positive change using state-of-the-art technologies. Here is a glimpse of what you'll do:

  • Build production ready analytical applications to generate insights, recognize patterns and predict behaviors.
  • Translate business needs into data science and/or reporting requirements to provide insights to support executive decisions.
  • Perform large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets using structured and/or unstructured data.
  • Research and implement cutting-edge techniques and tools in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence to make analysis and modelling activities more efficient, impactful and insightful.
  • Determine requirements that will be used to train, test and validate machine learning models and/or algorithms.
  • Choose the most appropriate techniques (based on business need and available data), to develop custom data models and algorithms. As part of that, you will monitor, develop and/or create processes and production ready tools to analyze model performance and accuracy on an ongoing basis.

Here is some of what you'll need (required):

  • A relevant finished degree in business information systems, computer science or similar
  • Demonstrated prior experience delivering data science projects
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using open source technologies such as R or Python
  • Good knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices generally.
  • Experience interrogating databases (MSSQL Server, PostGreSQL etc. ) using SQL queries
  • Good knowledge of ETL tools (Microsoft SSIS, Talend etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large datasets using both structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience working with reporting and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Microstrategy etc.)
  • Outstanding analytical skills and great attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent English communication skills in order to successfully work together with global stakeholders

Here Are a Few Of Our Preferred Experiences:

  • Experience working with Transport, Inventory and/or Warehouse Management Systems (TMS, IMS, WMS)
  • A solid understanding of logistics or supply chain processes
  • Experience in a large, multinational, matrix-based organization is an advantage
  • Intercultural experience, working with globally distributed stakeholders is an advantage
