Opportunity SnapshotWe are seeking an experienced Release Manager to lead and mature our release management function. This role oversees the planning, coordination, governance, and execution of complex, multi-team releases across test and production environments. The Senior Release Manager ensures changes are delivered safely, predictably, and in alignment with organisational standards, regulatory obligations, and operational risk controls.
Role and Responsibilities- Own and manage the end-to-end release lifecycle across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Lead release planning cycles, including release calendars, cut-over planning, and deployment readiness assessments.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and delivery of release commitments.
- Conduct release risk assessments and enforce compliance with governance and change management processes.
- Ensure all releases meet quality, security, and operational standards.
- Oversee incident management and post-release validation, including continuous improvement actions.
- Drive standardisation and optimisation of release processes, tools, and automation practices.
- Act as an escalation point for release blockers, environment constraints, or conflicting priorities.
- Provide regular reporting and communication on release status, metrics, and impacts.
- Coach and mentor junior release managers and uplift capability across teams.
- Lead and facilitate weekly release governance forums to manage risks, dependencies, and readiness.
- Represent Release Management at CAB meetings to confirm change quality and operational risk compliance.
- Manage versioning across all environments to maintain consistency and traceability.
- Oversee front door and intake processes ensuring all requests meet required entry criteria.
- Coordinate dress rehearsals, deployment walkthroughs, and cutover simulations to prepare teams for production releases.
- Maintain complete release artefacts including deployment plans, rollback plans, and risk registers.
- Ensure adherence to audit, regulatory, and operational risk obligations through appropriate documentation.
- Manage environment governance including freezes, refresh schedules, conflict resolution, and utilisation planning.
- Ensure environment stability and alignment across development, test, and production stages.
- Conduct post-release reviews capturing issues, operational impacts, and improvement actions.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, privacy, and production access controls prior to deployment.
- Act as governance contact for audit queries, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting.
- 7+ years of Release Management, DevOps, or Technical Delivery experience.
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stream enterprise releases.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, DevOps practices, CI/CD, and configuration management.
- Experience with governance frameworks, risk management, and change controls.
- Background working with cross-functional teams in high-paced environments.
- Exposure to cloud, infrastructure, security controls, and production support.
- Experience implementing or maturing release frameworks and automation.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented.
- Strong leadership and ability to influence without authority.
- Calm under pressure, especially during critical release windows.
- Excellent communicator capable of simplifying technical complexity.
