JOB OVERVIEW:

The Senior Complex Claims Specialist role is part of our JWF Specialty division. During the past 25 years, JWF Specialty has developed an in-house expertise in the field of insuring public entities, self-insured retention and large deductible programs and third-party claims management that is second to none. From programs for public entities and law enforcement to alternative risk management tools such as captives and risk retention groups, we have the resources to design, underwrite and manage a solution that addresses your specific needs. As a claims administrator, we work to expedite the settlement of existing claims—and with industry-leading claims analytics tools to review claims history and create pre-loss strategies to reduce total cost of claims.

The Senior Complex Claims Specialist is a high-level adjusting role that adjudicates assigned claims within given authority. This role is charged with the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of complex insurance claims. They will confirm and analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure and negotiate equitable settlements in compliance with all state regulatory requirements, and proactively drive early resolution of claims.

 

LOCATION: Remote/Work from home. 

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • REQUIRED: Extensive experience managing and overseeing litigated claims.
  • STRONGLY PREFERRED: Experience overseeing claims for public sector (such as municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and public schools), preferably as a third-party administrator. Experience handling claims with Excess Carriers.
  • Candidates with capacity to handle high volume, who are highly organized, and can manage shifting priorities quickly and accurately.
  • Nice to have: Candidates with adjusters' licenses for New York and/or California.
  • Candidates who are great team players looking not only to grow in their claims adjusting experience and knowledge, but also to be part of a close-knit team and supportive company culture!

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

A detailed list of job duties includes (but is not limited to):

  • Specializes in managing complex Property and Professional Liability claims; handles other claim types as needed.
  • Proactively manages assigned caseload comprised of complex claims that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage including potential legal liability.
  • Determines coverage parameters and limitations through analysis of complex policy terms and contingencies.
  • Partners with vendors and internal business centers to facilitate complex claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.
  • Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. Identify and resolve potential discrepancies and identifies subrogation potential resulting from unusual characteristics.
  • Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals when appropriate.
  • Determines and negotiates complex claims settlement within authority limits. Develops recommendations and collaborates with management for determining settlement amounts outside of authority limits and accurately manages claims outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.
  • Drives litigation best practices to lead defense strategy on litigated files.
  • Uses superior knowledge and experience to affect positive claim outcomes via investigation, negotiation and utilization of alternative dispute resolution.
  • Identifies emerging exposures and claims trends.
  • Identifies suspected fraudulent claims and tracks with special investigations unit.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

Qualifications:

  • Education & Licensing: 8 + years of claims management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Professional certification as applicable to line of business preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge of statutory regulations.
  • Ability to work on a diary system, prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey technical details to claimants, clients, and staff.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies.

Other Qualifications:

  • Certifications and/or licenses as required by State regulation.
  • Nice to have: Juris doctorate or other legal degree 

 

COMPENSATION: 

The national average salary for this role is $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
