Job Summary:
The Chief Medical Resident (CMR) is a PGY4 level resident in Internal Medicine (IM) who serves as an educator, leader, and manager of residents in training in close collaboration with IM program faculty. A CMR functions as a key mentor and advocate for the residents and is responsible for over-seeing curricular, regulatory, and organizational needs of the program. The CMR also acts as a role model in patient care, academic rigor, and interpersonal behavior, and thereby sets the expectations for his/her fellow residents. He/she helps monitor stress level of the residents and encourages open dialogue between the Department of Medicine and the residents. In addition, the CMR functions as a licensed independent practitioner and supervises residents in both ambulatory and inpatient care of patients.
