Job Details:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily workload, prepares and leads training sessions, and mentors' tax and garnishment staff to ensure that all team members maintain compliance with tax and garnishment rules, regulations, and company policies. Ensures balanced, coordinated workload is carried by all team members, reallocating work assignments as needed.  Proficient in all team tasks with the ability to take on additional responsibility to manage workload when circumstances require. Manage tax wire calculations and payment remittance forms, completes new tax jurisdiction applications, reports lump sum bonus payments and sustains system updates required by law, maintains EIWO system interface to ensure Child Support orders are set up accurately, executes system set up for electronic funds transfers, and performs research to resolve discrepancies related to tax notices and garnishment inquiries.  Professionally interacts with third party vendors, courts, and agencies to provide timely resolution to inquiries.
  • Executes essential research related to tax withholding accuracy, garnishment rules and regulations, and performs system testing, reviewing output results to prepare systems for changes when entering new states, establishing new tax jurisdictions, maintaining tax engine updates, researching and correcting error messages associated with payroll tax or garnishment changes, and implementing system updates and upgrades.
  • Performs research and data requests to complete audits and legal inquiries while evaluating best practices and training needs to determine short- and long-term goals relative to reducing company expense and implementing best practices. Demonstrates proficiency working with analytical tools, exporting, and uploading data into company systems including database applications, utilizes lookup functions, pivot tables, and charts to summarize data for balancing, statistics, and troubleshooting variances.  Audits and reviews exception reports to resolve warnings and error message from company systems, agencies, and legal inquiries. 
  • Helps maintain SOX compliance, manage caseload, respond to email, phone, and case management inquiries, reconciles, submits accruals and journal entries, and completes special projects as assigned. Collaborates and provides feedback to Senior Manager regarding hiring decisions and performance improvement discussions.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Firm understanding of payroll tax filing requirements for Federal, State, and Local entities including garnishment processing rules and regulations.
  • Ability to effectively manage, motivate, and develop employees.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while managing change consistent with strategic initiatives.
  • Self-Reliant with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to interpret data, present options, and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to lead people and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Work Experience and/or Education

  • Bachelor's or associates degree in business or related field preferred.  Two to four years of supervisory or team lead experience in a fast-paced, multi-state, environment.  Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of payroll, tax, and garnishment laws required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
