The Mammographer demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. This individual, under supervision, performs routine mammography and teaches patients how to do breast self-examination; assists Radiologists as necessary; assists in making the department run efficiently. The Mammographer has clinical contact with patients in the following age groups (adult and geriatric) and is able to appropriately assess, care for and treat them according to the age appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare.

Has clinical contact with patients in all age groups (pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) and is able to appropriately assess, care for and treat them according to the age appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare.
The main responsibilities for this position are:
Performs mammography on patients; explains examination procedures, positions patients, checks images for quality, and determines if ultrasound may be necessary
Maintains proficiency in all computer functionality necessary to perform job duties (RIS, PACS, QC, scanners, email, etc.)
Instructs patients on the proper technique of breast self-examination
Performs personal examines on patients and reports findings to Radiologist
Assists Radiologists in the assessment of biopsy specimens; x-rays the specimen, then compares the film to the original mammography to see if the physician excised the proper tissue; may perform in absence of the Radiologist
Assists Radiologists with special procedures, duct injections, needle localizations, etc.
Cleans, maintains and stocks examination rooms
Cleans and maintains printer Performs other duties as assigned
Currently registered or is registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Documented evidence of education based on observation, hands-on experience, and/or didactic instruction
One year of radiographer experience
One year of mammographer experience
Meets or exceeds department requirements in all levels of current performance appraisal
Demonstrated leadership ability
Working knowledge of and experience with hospital-wide computer systems and PC programs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Time management and organizational skills. Self directed.
Ability to make quality, independent decisions.
