Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Organizational Development and Effectiveness (AVP) this position manages the various programs operated through the Office of CAPE – the Center for Academic and Professional Excellence, including but not limited to professional development events, workshop events, new employee onboarding and offboarding, service excellence program.

The incumbent assists the AVP with ensuring the unit goals and objectives are accomplished efficiently and effectively. Under the leadership of the AVP, the incumbent may provide guidance to the CAPE staff and may work closely with the AVP to help train, coach, and recognize employees. The incumbent may provide feedback to the AVP on the day-to-day performance of CAPE staff. Under the direction of the AVP, the incumbent manages CAPE's workflow, projects, programs, events, and performance items to achieve the unit goals successfully.

In addition, the incumbent conducts need assessments, designs curriculum, facilitates workshops live and online, and evaluates programs and learning for all employees. The incumbent will work closely with the AVP to evolve the strategic direction of CAPE and expand CAPE's learning and development opportunities for all faculty and staff.

The Program Manager values the unique and various attributes of the CSN employee and student community to help provide a connection between the employee and CSN. The incumbent builds and nurtures relationships to create connecting and collaborative partnerships with all levels of the institution and fosters a learning culture and community for all faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, such as Human Resources, Education, Business Leadership, Management, Event Management, or Communications from a regionally accredited college and/or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of related experience in Learning and Development, Talent Development, Performance Management, Human Resources, a related field, including 1 year of experience supervising others in a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of LMS administrator experience.
  • 6 months of experience utilizing Workday or other HRIS Platform.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate in Learning and Development, Curriculum Development, Human Resources, or specific curriculum for adult education.
  • Certification in curriculum design or e-learning design curriculum.
  • 4 years of experience in Learning and Development or Talent Development with adults.
  • 2 years of experience supervising others.
  • 1 year of experience in Higher Education.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing MS Word at the intermediate to advanced skill level.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing MS Excel at the intermediate to advanced skill level.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing MS PowerPoint at the intermediate to advanced skill level.
  • 1 year of experience utilizing Adobe Captivate or other e-learning design software.

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Knowledge of adult and active learning principles, utilizing pedagogical and andragogical methods and approaches to learning.
  • Ability to establish and nurture effective working relationships and partnerships to accomplish the work.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills displaying the ability to craft written documents without error and design and facilitate timely and engaging workshops and deliver meaningful presentations.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Friendly and professional interpersonal skills with a focus on providing excellent service to direct reports, colleagues, faculty, students, vendors, and community partners.

  • Knowledge of supervisory and leadership principles to hire, guide, nurture, develop, coach, and discipline direct reports and counsel other supervisors to utilize sound supervisory practices and behaviors that align with CSN competencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and work towards positive resolutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct training needs assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate training programs and calculate the ROI.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and analyze reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgets and sound financial practices to manage program budgets.
  • Strong administrative skills with proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
