Description

Are you passionate about bridging the gap between field operations and digital innovation? Waste Services is looking for a Technology Program Lead to champion the modernization of our collection fleet. In this role, you will be the driving force behind the implementation and optimization of in-truck digital technologies that keep our City running smoothly and sustainably.

What will you do?

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a digitalization strategy for Waste Collections
  • Oversee the procurement, deployment, and lifecycle management of in-truck technology and asset management software
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external vendors and internal collaborators to coordinate repairs and system enhancements
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide ongoing support to field and management staff
  • Design and deliver engaging training materials and workshops to ensure high user adoption and competency
  • Monitor technology performance and identify opportunities for system optimization and improvement
  • Manage program budgets, track expenses, and reconcile vendor invoices to ensure cost-efficiency

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a technical support or IT-related role, ideally within a field operations environment
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues
  • Experience managing and coordinating with external service providers and vendors
  • Demonstrated experience in training and supporting end-users on new technology solutions

Assets:

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting
  • Previous experience in contract management

Skills required for success:

  • Understanding of data management principles and experience with data analysis tools
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized systems such as tablets, RFID readers, cameras, and DVRs
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical disruptions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build mutually beneficial relationships with crews, vendors, and partners
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under limited supervision and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to stay current with evolving technology and learn new systems quickly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively negotiate and resolve conflict

Conditions of Employment:

  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Applicants may be tested 

Work Environment:

  • Note, this position involves travel to various locations that are not all accessible via public transit
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
