Description

Join our Regional Development team to help shape the future of Edmonton and its surrounding areas. We are looking for a dedicated professional to build strong intermunicipal partnerships and create lasting economic opportunities for our region.

As a Principal Planner, you will lead the development of intermunicipal frameworks that optimize land use and infrastructure. You will manage complex regional projects, providing expert advice to leadership and collaborators to drive regional prosperity.

What will you do?

  • Lead intermunicipal projects to create or amend agreements and plans
  • Develop policies and procedures focused on regional strategic topics like transportation and economic development
  • Manage all project components, including scoping, budgeting, and directing external vendor services
  • Provide subject matter expertise on regional scale policies to internal partners
  • Evaluate land development applications and statutory plans for their potential regional impacts
  • Research best practices in other jurisdictions to support internal decision-making on regional strategy
  • Draft briefing notes and official responses to intermunicipal partners regarding land development proposals
  • Facilitate engagement across City Departments to identify opportunities for cross-departmental coordination
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, political science, business administration, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible planning and/or policy experience
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary or intergovernmental teams in politically sensitive environments
  • Proven project management experience

  • Skill in using both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Comprehensive understanding of land use planning, infrastructure delivery, and regional economies
  • Expertise in provincial regulations and statutory documents related to regional development
  • Strong problem-solving skills to recommend effective courses of action
  • Excellence in working independently and within a team environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills to coordinate multiple concurrent projects and manage resources

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work are currently under review and may change in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement
  • This is a public-facing role requiring interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs and emotional states

Salary Range: $54.155 - $69.110 (Hourly); $95,407.570 - $121,754.540 (Annually)
