Edmonton's Community and Recreation Centres feature world-class amenities, including aquatic areas, indoor tracks, fitness centres, and courts for basketball, badminton, tennis, and volleyball. We are looking for a dedicated Labourer II to contribute to the health, safety, and enjoyment of all guests and community partners by maintaining these vital facilities!
In this role, you will perform semi-skilled manual labour that keeps our centers running smoothly for everyone who visits. You will be responsible for everything from setting up major events to ensuring the facility is clean and safe. What will you do?
- Set up and take down equipment for facility events, programs and sports activities
- Perform summer season outdoor mowing, playground/picnic site maintenance, minor equipment repairs, and exterior washroom cleaning
- Perform winter season snow removal using a snow blower, tractor, gas-powered walk-behind snow sweeper and hand equipment
- Assist custodial staff with overall facility cleanliness and sanitation of washrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms
- Maintain the cleanliness of all storage areas, mechanical areas, electrical rooms, corridors, gymnasium, bleachers, multipurpose rooms, indoor playground, fitness centre, and running track areas
- Vacuum sweep, mop, strip, seal and wax floors as required or scheduled
- Perform minor repairs on facility equipment and furniture
- Liaise with and assist guests and community partners with equipment and facility needs.
- Perform the daily facility opening and closing procedures
- Provide a security presence throughout the facility
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and report equipment needs to the Operations Supervisor
- Other related duties as required
- Completed 10th school grade
- One year of labour experience in sports facilities operations, including interacting with and engaging the general public
Assets:
- Experience with janitorial or custodial work
- Experience with hand tools
- Customer service experience
- Experience working in a recreation or sports facility
Skills required for success:
- Ability to safely operate the equipment and tools required for the position such as scrubbers, sweepers, snow blowers, lawnmowers, gators, snow sweepers and miscellaneous small electrical and mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, safety precautions, WHMIS and hazards involved in the construction and maintenance of specific assignments
- Ability to work safely in a variety of environmental conditions, as dictated by Occupational Health and Safety and the Community Services
- Department regulations, policies and procedures, at all times
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and maintain simple records
- Ability to work alone and problem-solve independently

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR certification is required prior to start date
- Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:
- This position involves moderate to heavy physical effort, including lifting up to 20 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs
- You will work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, precipitation, and heights
- This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
- The role requires shift work, including evenings and weekends

Salary: $25.935 - $34.208 (Hourly)
