As an Environmental Monitoring Specialist with the City of Edmonton, you'll handle advanced responsibilities like managing long-term monitoring studies, making critical monitoring decisions, and preparing detailed reports. What will you do?

  • Assist in the initial preparation of the study, which may involve participating in client meetings and communicating with members of the general public to obtain consent for monitoring
  • Complete on-site field level hazards assessment and conduct work in a safety-conscious manner
  • Set up and calibrate equipment for the monitoring of ground vibrations and environmental noise
  • Manage weekly water sampling for the snow storage facility's meltwater quality compliance program
  • Manage annual or biannual sampling of water and sediment sampling for the sump sampling programs
  • Collect and download data by utilizing on-line data service portals
  • Tabulate data using Google Sheets, which may involve the creation or maintenance of complex formulas
  • Determine relevant regulatory guidelines and criteria for comparing data
  • Verify and analyze data, including identifying anomalies and guideline exceedances
  • Stay up-to-date with applicable guidelines and standards and technology
  • Maintain professional designations and/or accreditations and fulfill required professional development hours by attending webinars and/or courses as well as through self-directed study
  • Assist in drafting and coordinating proposals for projects
  • Other duties as assigned
