Join the Integrated Infrastructure Services (IIS) team and play a pivotal role in building trust and delivering exceptional climate resilience infrastructure projects that enhance our city. As an Engineering Project Manager in the Renewable Energy Systems section, you'll lead dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams, driving innovation and ensuring the successful execution of critical District Energy initiatives.

You will have the authority and competence to lead the project, make operational decisions, and guide staff from various reporting areas and across the City. This role includes the ability to make budget and schedule decisions within a delegated scope of authority. This includes owning the responsibility for every deliverable, objective and outcome of the project; exercising influence, utilizing collaboration, mediating issues and focusing on problem solving. You will contribute to the advancement of growing the District Energy portfolio in the City, leading to greenhouse gas emissions reductions and increased local energy resilience.

What will you do?

  • Manage the planning & design and/or delivery for key climate resilience infrastructure projects including operational/strategic initiatives, resource and financial management
  • Review and prepare feasibility studies, master plans, functional programs and design reports, drawings and specifications, as well as operation and maintenance reports and manuals
  • Define the project goals, objectives and planned deliverables in order to implement Edmonton's first District Energy Strategy and fulfill the requirements of  Project Sponsors
  • Manage, monitor and report project milestones through detailed plans and schedules, ensuring the project is on budget, on schedule, and within the defined scope and quality
  • Develop and steward relationships with external project stakeholders, like utilities, consultants, developers and operators, that support the success of the projects
  • Develop and implement robust public/stakeholder engagement processes and activities, working in collaboration with Communications & Engagement (C&E)
  • Document all project activities in accordance with the Project Management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Manage the procurement and contract processes, including tender documents, review of proposals/bids, and make recommendations for acceptance
  • Direct and coordinate the work of consultants and contractors
  • Develop project related reports for Council, Executive Leadership Team, IIS Leadership Team, and others as required
  • Review and approve, as required, the design and delivery of work performed by engineering consultants
  • Develop or ensure appropriate specifications and standards are developed and/or used based on expert technical expertise and management of engineering specialists
  • Ensure the project abides by any applicable City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines. These documents outline OHS accountability at all levels of the organization, relative to legislative OHS requirements. The area OHS Consultant can provide assistance with these
