Description

The City of Edmonton is looking for an organized and detail-oriented technical professional to join our Infrastructure Planning & Design team. As an Engineering Project & Information Technologist, you will play a critical role in supporting the Engineering Services section by managing vital technical records and coordinating project intakes.

What will you do?

  • Manage and administer engineering and geoscience databases and Document Management Systems (DMS) that support the work in the Engineering services section by facilitating routine document transactions, ensuring metadata integrity, coordinating document lifecycles, and executing standard process workflows
  • Coordinate the end-to-end intake and review process for engineering, geoscience, or environmental project or service requests, by administering required documentation to ensure smooth coordination with internal clients 
  • Interpret and evaluate technical service requests to ensure they meet internal guidelines and determine the necessary professional disciplines required for review
  • Facilitate cross-unit collaboration and administrative support to keep workflows moving and contribute to delivering annual action plans
  • Assist with the development of process work instructions, standard operating procedures, and guidelines and other Quality Management System (QMS) documents
  • Support continuous improvement of the QMS by identifying process optimization opportunities, collaborating with technical teams to implement updates and ensure operational efficiency
  • Provide general technical support, including preparing draft drawings, memos, and reports under the guidance of senior staff
  • Assist with contract management activities, such as contract documentation, renewals, coordinating deliverables and invoicing for outsourced professional services
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • Completion of a two-year diploma in an Engineering Technologist program
  • A minimum of two years of experience related to the administration of technical work within project management, engineering design, or document management
  • Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET

Assets:

  • Experience working within a public sector or large corporate environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, POSSE and Meridian  
  • Familiarity with the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act and APEGA Practice Standards

Skills required for success:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to summarize complex technical information
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with collaborators at all levels of management
  • High level of proficiency in Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and database management
  • Acute attention to detail in record management and a commitment to maintaining data integrity
  • Ability to read and interpret professional drawings and reports across various disciplines
  • Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage a high volume of work and prioritize tasks independently

Conditions of Employment:

  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls, where required
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs and frequent sitting

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This role works primarily in an indoor setting, with occasional site visits

Salary Range: $39.160 - $49.221 (Hourly); $81,766.08 - $102,773.45 (Annually)
