Description

Join the dedicated team at the Animal Care & Control Centre (ACCC) where your passion for animal welfare meets meaningful action. As an Animal Care Attendant, you will serve as the primary caregiver for stray and seized animals, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care during their stay. This role is vital to our community, providing a safe and healthy environment for animals while supporting public safety and health protocols. If you are a compassionate, hard-working individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, we want to hear from you.

As an Animal Care Attendant, you are responsible for the daily health, cleanliness, and enrichment of all animals housed at the ACCC. Your day-to-day work involves rigorous cleaning and sanitization of kennels to prevent disease transmission, alongside feeding and monitoring the physical well-being of dogs, cats, and various other species. Beyond animal care, you will maintain the facility's grounds and interior to ensure a safe environment for both the animals and the public. You will work closely with Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) and Veterinarians, assisting with animal transfers and, when necessary, supporting the euthanasia process. This position requires resilience, as you will navigate emotionally charged situations and physically demanding tasks. Ultimately, your work ensures that every animal in our care is treated with dignity and compassion.

What will you do?

  • Provide daily care, feeding, and water to all animals in the facility while ensuring specific dietary needs are met
  • Perform deep cleaning and routine spot-cleaning of kennels, hallways, and animal housing areas following strict disease control protocols
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns such as illness or distress to the veterinary team
  • Facilitate animal enrichment through walking, social interaction, and providing toys and treats
  • Assist veterinary staff with animal transfers, medical procedures, and euthanasia when required
  • Maintain the facility by removing snow, sanding icy patches, and ensuring outdoor spaces are free of debris
  • Manage laundry and dishwashing tasks to ensure a constant supply of clean bedding and sanitized feeding equipment
  • Perform minor repairs to animal traps and general facility maintenance as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
