OPERATIONAL RISK EVENTS PROGRAM MANAGER WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? Operational Risk Management (ORM) program is in the second line of defense and is accountable for CNB's Operational Risk strategy and framework, enabling CNB to identify, measure, monitor, and mitigate operational risks arising from CNB's business processes, people, systems or external events. ORM works across CNB's businesses and functions, providing independent oversight and challenge to ensure effective implementation of Operational Risk practices in compliance with regulatory and policy requirements. ORM is also accountable to provide insight on CNB's overall Operational Risk Profile.The Operational Risk Events Program Manager is responsible for leading the 2LOD Operational Risk Events (ORE) program and team. In this role, the leader will establish, maintain, and oversee adherence to policies, standards, and procedures specific to the ORE program. The leader will also provide oversight of the effectiveness of the first line of defense ORE practices, provide credible challenge to the first line, and monitor and independently report on the ORE program. What you will do
- Responsible for the overall direction and success of the Operational Risk Events program, which includes both Internal OREs and External Events.
- Lead and mentor a team of Operational Risk professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure effective credible challenge and professional development
- Provide credible challenge to 1LOD colleagues on OREs, ensuring safeguard and risk mitigation measures are upheld in decision making and adherence to 2LOD policies and standards.
- Develop, monitor, and report on Operational Risk Events across CNB, leveraging industry leading KRIs and tools
- Develop and maintain effective partnership and teamwork with all key Stakeholders including First Line Business Control Officer teams, the broader ORM team, RBC Operational Risk Shared Services, and other teams is a key success factor.
- Define and implement relevant policies, standards and procedures that facilitate an effective ORE program.
- Review procedures for completeness, compliance and adequacy
- Manage metrics to assess risk, compliance and performance of the program and its strategies and plans
- Strong management oversight and reporting of all Operational Risk Events issues and exceptions
- Lead the preparation of status reports, key metrics and other ORE reporting information for management, the Operational Risk Management Committee, and the Management Risk Committee.
- Interface with the Bank's main regulators, primarily the OCC as well as both internal and external auditors as required
- Lead reviews of the ORE program to ensure it continues to be appropriate based on emerging risk trends, thematic risks, and regulatory changes.
- Maintain awareness of current regulatory/industry trends impacting the Bank's ORE program or practices.
- Act as an internal advisor to business and corporate units regarding the ORE program.
Must-Have*
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years banking or financial services experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Risk Management, ORM or Internal Audit
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Operational Risk Events
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role
Skills and Knowledge
- Must be very knowledgeable of regulatory ORE guidance and industry best practices
- Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and report writing skills, including the ability to evaluate the usefulness of data and use it in meaningful communication
- Ability to consistently provide superior independent judgment with demonstrated analytical and risk assessment skills
- Ability to think with a control and process mindset. The successful candidate will have a strong control design, audit and reporting background
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with shifting deadlines and priorities under limited supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability in communicating with senior executives
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, internally and externally, with the most senior representatives of organizations
- Self-motivated, able to bring projects and reporting to conclusion
- Remain current on the trends and best practices for ORE
