JOB PURPOSE
The role of a Transportation Lead is to support the work of transportation services for a region of schools or a school. The employee assists the Transportation Director with the daily operations of the school transportation program within an assigned area or a specific school. The job was established for the purpose/s of communicating with school administrators, parents, other stakeholders, transportation personnel and the schools to establish bus routes and stops; resolving transportation issues; arranging transportation for special events; investigation of transportation concerns relative to students pick up locations and routing. This role is intended to serve as a backup driver when no other drivers are available for bus route coverage.
How You Will Impact Education
Collaboratively plans, organizes, and supervises the work of school bus drivers or bus service providers and others responsible for the safe transportation of students. Maintains active knowledge of compliance with DOT, FMCSA, state, and other federal regulations; to include implementation and oversight of FMCSA compliant drug and alcohol program. Coordinates procedures, standards and safety practices, and monitors operations of busing safety standards. Works with school leadership and administrators to develop and implement policies and procedures to be compliant with state and federal regulations. Coordinates with school personnel, site administrators, and program coordinators on routing, field trip, and extracurricular scheduling, including communicating those requests to the bus drivers or bus company. Collaboratively develops or oversees the development of routes, student assignment to routes, and driver assignment to routes. Implements and trains on processes to ensure overall compliance with all state and federal statutes related to student transportation. Communicates with bus maintenance companies and routing company regarding scheduling repairs. Audits, files, prints, or scans documentation required by the school, DOE or DOT specific personnel or file.
Required Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of the district transportation policy. Demonstrates ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple task. Ability to consistently be at work, to arrive on time, to follow instructions, to respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Establishes excellent interpersonal skills between all constituents: being courteous, professional, and helpful; demonstrates high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Demonstrates knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements for K-12 schools and charter school law.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma. Class A or B commercial drivers license with P and S endorsements. Ability to meet all state and district mandated requirements for school bus drivers. Ability to pass all physical requirements as mandated by DOT and DOE. Successful completion of all school safe trainings provided by the employer. 2 - 5 years relevant experience as a bus driver and/or bus driver certified safety trainer. Experience in transportation instruction. Demonstrated soft skill abilities to lead a team and present to a group. Computer literacy skills; proficiency in Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. The ability to be a mentor to students and provide student management on and off the bus based on the school or district's handbook. Demonstrated competencies with bus routing programs or logistical software. Such alternatives to the above requirements as CSUSA may find appropriate and acceptable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter: Usual office working conditions but must be able to go outside during peak times to assist schools as school based level. Ability to cope with load noises specifically multiple voices while driving a school bus. Ability to communicate and manage students while operating a school bus safely.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
No physical exertion required. Travel within the state. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY
Job is non-exempt subject to the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
