JOB PURPOSE The Transportation Coordinator manages and coordinates transportation operations including scheduled routes, special excursions, maintenance scheduling, and substitute driver/vehicle assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees the drivers and buses assigned to routes; assigns substitute drivers and spare vehicles as needed.
  • Oversees pre trip inspections and post trip inspections and proper vehicle parking on campus.
  • Serves as the bus operator liaison for equipment as well as matters related to routes, maintenance, and student discipline; ensures school administration receives necessary reports; ensures paperwork is provided to bus operators and administration in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates with maintenance vendor(s) on repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates with safety & training vendor on driver onboarding, monthly safety meetings, and annual recertification.
  • Advises school administration on applicants, bus operator issues, and termination recommendations with the understanding that the Transportation Coordinator does not have the authority to hire, fire, or formally reprimand.
  • Works with bus operators and Deans of Discipline on disciplinary issues that arise on the buses.
  • Coordinates evacuation drills with bus operators and school administration.
  • Communicates, in a timely manner, all routing issues, delays, and/or anomalies with school staff.
  • Assists in maintaining an effective computerized transportation management system.
  • Assists in the efficient staffing of the student transportation system; assists in supervising, hiring, and evaluating bus operators and bus attendants in compliance with state laws and regulations; assists on projecting staffing requirements in conjunction with all routes and schedules.
  • Acts as a substitute bus operator when all other bus operators are unavailable for a route or special excursion. When acting as a substitute bus operator, essential duties and responsibilities include:
    • Drives a school bus safely in accordance with time schedules; transports students to and from their homes, a variety of school sites, and on field trips as assigned.
    • Oversees the loading and unloading of students, releasing students to authorized individual.
    • Maintains order and proper discipline of passengers; resolves disputes; documents and reports severe disciplinary cases.
    • Conducts established safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.
    • Assures maintenance of bus in a safe and clean operational condition; reports needed mechanical repairs; sweeps the interior of the bus daily; services the bus with gas; follows established security procedures.
  • Maintains a variety of records and reports, including but not limited to: attendance, mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.
  • Attends meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.
  • Maintains current required licenses and certificates.
  • Notifies appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route(s).
  • Assists with other routes when breakdown or other unusual circumstances occur as assigned.
  • Provides timely electronic, written, and oral feedback to all levels.
  • Professionally and positively represents the school, foundation, and/or CSUSA in every situation.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student/ employee information.
  • Ensures quality standards on policies and procedures are maintained.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance at work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  1. Bachelor's degree preferred; however, a high school diploma or equivalent may be considered.
  1. Valid Commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  2. Clean driving record in accordance with Safe Driver Plan
  3. Commercial License Medical Examiner's Certification
  4. CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) Certification
  5. School Bus Driver Certificate
  6. Continuing Education/Training/Compliance:
  • Monthly Safety Meetings
  • Annual School Bus Driver Certification
  • Maintain clean driving record in accordance with Safe Drive Plan
  • Maintain background check clearance in accordance with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), Louisiana State Police (LSP), and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
  • Maintain Commercial License Medical Examiner's Certificate
  • Driving assessment each semester

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Travel within or outside of state.
  • Light work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by CSUSA.

 

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

This job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA).

 

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with CSUSA's policy.
