As a senior leader, the Director of Communications will design, lead, and execute comprehensive internal communications strategies that advance CSUSA's mission and strategic priorities. This role is the primary architect of CSUSA's internal voice--building strong cross-functional relationships, guiding enterprise-wide initiatives, and ensuring every member of our educational network is informed, engaged, and motivated.

How You Will Impact Education

  1. Strategic Communications Planning and Implementation
    • Direct the creation and execution of an organization-wide, innovative internal communications strategy that reflects CSUSA's culture, drives measurable engagement, and supports long-term priorities.
    • Ensure all communications embody CSUSA's Mission, Values, and Promise (MVP), deepening staff understanding and commitment across all schools and teams.
  2. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Material Development
    • Partner with executive leadership, HR, and other senior stakeholders to design and standardize high-quality communication materials, including videos, brochures, and promotional items.
    • Provide strategic oversight for the creation, approval, and distribution of recruitment marketing collateral, ensuring a consistent, professional, and mission-driven voice.
  3. Enterprise Communications Management
    • Oversee major internal communication initiatives, managing a comprehensive annual communications calendar with clear ownership and success metrics.
    • Spearhead organization-wide campaigns for significant changes--such as new school openings or policy updates--ensuring readiness, alignment, and stakeholder confidence.
  4. Content Strategy, Creation, and Distribution
    • Lead the development and publication of inspiring newsletters, interviews, and organizational updates that reinforce culture and transparency.
    • Introduce innovative approaches to make routine communications compelling for all staff levels, tailoring delivery to diverse audiences.
  5. Leadership Enablement & Managerial Communication Support
    • Equip managers and school leaders with advanced toolkits, templates, and communication frameworks to ensure clear, consistent, and positive messaging.
    • Direct training and resources to build leadership communication skills aligned with CSUSA's core values and strengthen leader-driven engagement efforts.
  6. Strategic Event Leadership
    • Lead the execution of high-visibility events such as all-hands meetings and leadership summits, shaping narrative flow and managing logistics for maximum impact.
    • Plan and facilitate engaging forums such as town halls and roundtables to foster feedback, collaboration, and a culture of openness.
  7. Cross-Functional Project Team Direction
    • Lead and coordinate agile project teams spanning creative, digital, social media, and production to deliver cohesive, high-quality communications.
    • Serve as the central executive liaison for recruitment marketing assets, ensuring alignment with CSUSA's employer brand strategy.
  8. Engagement and Channel Optimization
    • Identify and evaluate communication and engagement opportunities across the organization, using analytics to measure performance and guide adjustments.
    • Innovate and direct a strategic channel mix that effectively reaches diverse employee groups with targeted, relevant, and mission-aligned content.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in internal or corporate communications, including at least 3 years in a director or senior leadership capacity within a large, multi-location organization.
  • Proven track record in designing, leading, and executing strategic communications plans with measurable outcomes that drive engagement and organizational alignment.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills--able to inspire, simplify complex ideas, and instill confidence across diverse audiences under tight deadlines.
  • Strong expertise in digital communication platforms, enterprise content management systems, and analytics tools to measure communication effectiveness and reach.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering with executive leadership teams, providing strategic counsel and trusted guidance on messaging and engagement.
  • Strategic agility and the ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously while maintaining quality, alignment, and impact.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • No physical exertion required.
  • Travel within or outside of state.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with CSUSA salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by Charter Schools USA.
