Hardware Equipment Specialist

Office of Information Technology

The Hardware Equipment Specialist plays a pivotal role in the logistical operations of the Network Technology organization. This involves collaborating with diverse teams within the organization to ensure seamless logistics across Network Services, Public Safety Technicians, Telecommunications, and Communications Teams. 

Working closely with the Network Engineers, the Hardware Equipment Specialist participates in creating detailed bill of materials for Facilities Management projects and annual network equipment refresh initiatives. Responsibilities also include carefully tracking Network Technology purchase orders and inputting all components into the inventory database. They oversee the management of multiple storage warehouses, handling equipment packing slips, reconciliation, and preparation for deployment via work orders. Throughout this process, they allocate network components to fulfill work order requests, ensuring accurate documentation of component locations. This role will have the responsibility of monitoring inventory levels across all teams, and promptly identifying and replenishing components as required.

The Hardware Equipment Specialist is also responsible for tracking the Network Technology operational yearly expenses. This includes reviewing maintenance support for all network components, working with various vendors to request quotes and adjusting maintenance coverage where necessary.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 1-2 years experience working in a technology field preferred

  • Experience using spreadsheets for analysis, budgeting or related skills

  • Experience managing external vendors.

  • Excellent customer service skills; tact and sensitivity in dealing with a diverse user community.

  • Some knowledge of the following is preferred:  network protocols, routing protocols, PC and other microcomputer architecture.

  • Managing and prioritizing assigned tickets using a trouble ticketing system

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize activities

  • Excellent customer service skills; tact and sensitivity in dealing with a diverse user community

  • Good written and oral communications skills required

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

  • Familiarity with Network monitoring tools and concepts for monitoring performance, generating reports or alerts. 

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, demonstrated ability working on deadlines.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in an organized and productive manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

Successful completion of a criminal background check and education verification is required.
