PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The BVH Surgery & Endoscopy Operations Director is responsible for peri-operative patient care and coordination of staff at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Assesses and evaluates patient care, personnel, staff development, and acts as a clinical resource person. Maintains active communication among medical staff, interdepartmental staff, and OR staff in order to provide optimum patient care and quality service to the surgeons. Maintains a line of positive communication, promotes teamwork, and supports the management team by promoting professional collaboration at all levels.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Duty 1: Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned.
- Duty 2: Understands and utilizes the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement and consistently looks for opportunities, analyzes and implements solutions for process improvements.
- Duty 3: Assures the productive performance of assigned employees by fairly enforcing hospital policies; screening, interviewing, orienting and developing staff on the unit; counseling employees and recommending discipline and termination; functions in a problem solving role.
- Duty 4: Responsible for adequate staffing to meet patient needs and that work flows smoothly on assigned shift in consideration of budget constraints.
- Duty 5: Assures that services provided meet or exceed the standards of BVHS, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations
- Duty 6: Actively participates in the development and implementation of unit goals, objectives, and budgets.
- Duty 7: Responds to and appropriately addresses physician, patient, and family concerns.
- Duty 8: Ensures that correct staffing levels are maintained. Works to maintain high morale and team work within the department. Understands current policies and procedures relating to employment and consistently follows these policies.
- Duty 9: Provides disciplinary counseling as assigned. Consults Human Resources as appropriate during this process.
- Duty 10: Understands regulatory compliance issues which affect the System and department, including AORN, ASPAN, SGNA, Joint Commission, etc., and insures that department and personnel maintain compliance at all times.
- Duty 11: Provides all aspects of patient/client based care based on established standards. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient needs; a knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed for these patients.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Surgical Services with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Superior communications skills and relationship building
- Ability to create and lead a culture of clinical and service excellence
- Ability to Inspire and motivate commitment and cohesiveness of staff in achieving BVHS system goals and objectives
- Knowledge of surgery best practice and ability to operationalize practice changes in keeping with national standards
- A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
- Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Related experience in PACU, Endoscopy, or Central Processing helpful.
- BSN and/or Master's degree
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
