Position Summary  

The IT System Admin - Journey reports to the Director of Infrastructure and works collaboratively with members of the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division, internal members within their own department, and the college community.

The ITS Division at Bellevue College is dedicated to delivering high-quality technology solutions that support the academic and operational needs of the college community. ITS plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment by ensuring access to reliable technology resources for faculty, staff, and students. It manages networking, servers, performance and quality of all college websites, the web portal, software and application development, as well as data and administrative system support.

The Infrastructure Team provides core enterprise services and IT infrastructure for the college's information systems. The team ensures the college's digital information, technology services and enterprise systems are strategically planned, implemented, tested and supported to meet the technology needs of students, staff, and faculty.

There are two (2)positions open.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $94,596/year - $127,236/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the Department

The Infrastructure Team provides core enterprise services and IT infrastructure for the college's information systems. The team ensures the college's digital information, technology services and enterprise systems are strategically planned, implemented, tested and supported to meet the technology needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Essential Functions  

Administer and maintain network infrastructure systems

  • Administer and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless systems, and firewall platforms.
  • Configure and maintain firewall systems including firewall rules, VPN access, and network security policies.
  • Monitor network performance, connectivity, and security using monitoring tools and system logs.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, firewall, and VPN issues and restore service.
  • Implement network configuration changes following established procedures.

Administer and support enterprise identity and cloud infrastructure systems

  • Administer identity systems including Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Administer and support user accounts, group memberships, access permissions, and authentication services.
  • Administer Azure infrastructure components such as virtual machines, identity services, and cloud-hosted applications.
  • Monitor Azure and Entra systems for operational issues, security alerts, and service health.
  • Troubleshoot identity synchronization, authentication failures, and access issues affecting enterprise systems.

Administer and maintain enterprise storage systems

  • Administer and maintain network storage systems including storage volumes, permissions, and system health.
  • Provision and manage storage for enterprise servers and applications.
  • Monitor storage systems for capacity, performance, and operational issues.
  • Perform storage maintenance and support backup and recovery operations.

Administer and maintain enterprise applications and services

  • Administer and maintain college applications and services falling under the infrastructure team.
  • Monitor applications and services for capacity, performance, and operational issues.
  • Perform application maintenance and support lifecycle and updates.

Administer and support enterprise server infrastructure

  • Administer Windows Server and Linux systems supporting enterprise applications and infrastructure.
  • Apply updates, patches, and configuration changes following established procedures.
  • Support integration between on-premises and cloud-based systems.
  • Monitor system performance and operational status.

Monitor infrastructure systems and resolve operational issues

  • Monitor network, server, storage, firewall, and cloud infrastructure systems using monitoring tools and alerts.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and restore services following established procedures.
  • Escalate complex infrastructure issues to senior staff as needed.
  • Support incident response and service restoration activities.

Support infrastructure projects and maintain documentation

  • Assist with deployment and configuration of network, firewall, storage, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Implement infrastructure changes following established standards and procedures.
  • Maintain documentation for infrastructure systems and operational procedures.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or similar) or 6 years of experience as a system administrator or network administrator.
  • Experience using scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent.
  • Experience administering enterprise identity management systems such as Active Directory and Entra ID.
  • Experience administering network infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, or VPN systems.
  • Experience administering firewall systems such as FortiGate or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience administering NetApp storage systems or equivalent enterprise storage platforms.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Able to apply emerging and evolving technologies to current and future business needs at the enterprise, operational and tactical levels.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements affecting higher education IT systems, such as FERPA, PCI, or data security standards.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional IT teams and institutional stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical staff.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments integrating on-premises and Azure systems.
  • Experience working in a higher education or public sector IT environment.
