Position Summary
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Interim Vice Provost provides senior-level leadership for academic strategy, instructional alignment, and operational coordination across Academic Affairs. The position exists to ensure the quality, coherence, and effectiveness of instructional programs and academic systems in support of student success and institutional priorities.
The Interim Vice Provost provides leadership for curriculum governance, tenure processes, faculty hiring, and strategic and integrated instructional scheduling, and directly supervises the Director of Grants Development, the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence for Information and Computing Technology, the Director of the Office of Academic Strategy and Integrated Scheduling, the Executive Director of Workforce Partnerships, and the Dean of Connected Learning.
As a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, the Interim Vice Provost supports strategic planning, labor relations, Title II administration, and program viability, and serves as a key partner to the Provost in advancing Bellevue College¿s strategic goals and commitments related to equity, student success, and institutional effectiveness.
This interim temporary position is anticipated to end in December 2026.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $132,639/year - $198,959/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $149,219/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the DepartmentThe Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs provides leadership for Bellevue College¿s instructional mission and plays a central role in advancing the Be Bold Strategic Plan. The division supports academic quality, student success, and coherence by overseeing curriculum governance, faculty processes, instructional planning, and academic policy in alignment with the college¿s priorities of Students, People, Community, and Operations.
Academic Affairs works collaboratively across the college to ensure instructional programs are accessible, responsive, and aligned with student success and workforce relevance. The division supports faculty hiring and tenure processes, instructional scheduling, and compliance with collective bargaining agreements and regulatory requirements, while promoting equitable practices and shared accountability across academic units.
Through coordinated academic strategy, workforce- and community-connected learning, and grants-supported instructional initiatives, Academic Affairs advances institutional effectiveness and operational alignment. The division plays a key role in translating strategic priorities into instructional practice, ensuring that academic decisions, resources, and structures support long-term student success and institutional sustainability.
Essential FunctionsStrategic Academic Leadership & Implementation
- Provide leadership for the implementation of Bellevue College¿s Be Bold Strategic Plan within Academic Affairs, ensuring instructional strategy, academic policy, and resource alignment advance the college¿s priorities of Students, People, Community, and Operations.
- Lead academic strategy through an Outward Mindset, fostering collaboration, shared accountability, and alignment across academic divisions and institutional partners.
- Translate institutional priorities into coordinated academic actions that support equity, student success, and long-term institutional effectiveness.
- Align academic decision-making with Bellevue College¿s commitments as an Achieving the Dream (ATD) Leader College and Aspen-aligned institution, using evidence-informed practices to support continuous improvement.
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Provost on academic strategy, instructional risk, and change management.
Curriculum Governance & Instructional Policy
- Provide leadership and oversight for curriculum governance and academic policy to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance across instructional programs.
- Oversee curriculum approval processes and chair or support collegewide curriculum governance structures, ensuring alignment with institutional standards and strategic priorities.
- Ensure academic policies and curriculum decisions support equitable access, instructional coherence, and student progression.
- Partner with academic leadership to align curriculum practices with ATD and Aspen principles related to learning excellence, student success, and workforce relevance.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, state regulations, and collective bargaining agreements related to curriculum and instruction.
Faculty Hiring, Tenure, and Academic Workforce Leadership
- Provide leadership for faculty hiring, tenure, and academic workforce processes in alignment with institutional values, collective bargaining agreements, and strategic priorities.
- Oversee faculty recruitment and hiring processes to promote student success, instructional excellence, and long-term workforce sustainability.
- Lead and coordinate tenure and promotion processes, ensuring consistency, fairness, and adherence to policy and contract requirements.
- Support faculty leadership and development in partnership with academic deans and shared governance bodies.
- Advance a culture of care, accountability, and shared purpose consistent with Outward Mindset leadership and the Be Bold priority of People.
Strategic & Integrated Instructional Scheduling
- Provide leadership for strategic and integrated instructional scheduling to support access, enrollment stability, and efficient use of instructional resources.
- Oversee institution-wide instructional scheduling practices to ensure alignment with student demand, program pathways, and equity goals.
- Coordinate scheduling decisions across academic divisions to support completion, progression, and operational effectiveness.
- Use data-informed analysis to balance instructional capacity, resource constraints, and student needs.
- Align scheduling practices with Be Bold priorities related to Students and Operations, supporting sustainable and responsive instructional delivery.
Other Duties
- Serve on college committees, councils, and task forces as assigned.
- Represent Academic Affairs in institutional initiatives and system-level work.
- Support additional projects and responsibilities aligned with evolving institutional priorities.
- A master¿s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an instructional discipline, educational leadership, higher education administration, or a related field. A combination of relevant education and professional experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Progressively responsible academic leadership experience within higher education, including oversight of academic policy, curriculum governance, faculty processes, or instructional planning.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating faculty hiring and/or tenure processes, with knowledge of participatory governance and collective bargaining environments.
- Experience providing strategic oversight of instructional scheduling, academic planning, or resource alignment in a complex academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead with an Outward Mindset, fostering collaboration, shared accountability, and cross-functional alignment.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, student success, and institutional effectiveness, consistent with evidence-based frameworks such as Achieving the Dream (ATD) and Aspen-aligned practices.
- Experience working effectively with academic leaders, faculty, and staff across multiple units in a collaborative, high-accountability environment.
- Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate complex academic, operational, and labor-related issues.
- Doctorate or terminal degree in a related field.
- Experience within a unionized or participatory-governance academic environment.
- Experience with strategic enrollment or instructional scheduling systems.
- Familiarity with the Washington State community and technical college system and/or ctcLink.
