Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs Operations and Student Life, the Director of Housing will be responsible for providing leadership and vision to the Bellevue College Housing department. Department functions of responsibility include residential life; conference and guest housing; occupancy management; academic success initiatives; budget and fiscal management; facilities management; and short- and long-range planning for additional on and off-campus housing.
The Director of Housing supports the operations of the Bellevue College housing department and the student life and leadership unit within the division of student affairs. Further, the position will support the institutional strategic plan through the implementation of the Housing operational plan and the Student Affairs operational plan. This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), student conduct officer, and member of the CARE team (Bellevue College¿s Behavior Intervention Team).
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $97,166/year - $140,891/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $108,097/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

About the DepartmentBellevue College Housing serves residents that live in suite and apartment style housing. The department consists of multiple full-time staff members, student staff, and hourly staff. The campus residence hall is open year-round and supports conference and short-term guest housing. As part of the Student Affairs division, Housing is focused on centering student needs in its operational protocols and fostering a community focused on assisting students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Essential FunctionsOrganizational Strategy
- Provide leadership to and oversee the development and execution of a comprehensive, student-centered on-campus housing program.
- Use sound judgement, data, student development theory and emerging student housing practices to guide the development, operations and planning for student housing at Bellevue College.
- Work collaboratively with Housing staff and other campus partners to develop a positive, comprehensive student living and learning experience.
- Create, implement and evaluate yearly department goals, learning outcomes, and resident satisfaction.
- Implement institutional, state and federal policies and regulations as they apply to the department.
- Ensure department protocols align with institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain service equity for all students and visitors accessing services provided by the Bellevue College Housing department.
- Serve as the on-campus student housing subject matter expert for Bellevue College.
Student Engagement and Education
- Foster an engaged and supportive community environment guided by the values of equity, academic success and leadership development.
- Provide and manage adequate resources to department staff to ensure an active and engaged community of residential learners.
- Support and partner with campus and community resources to maximize on-campus housing benefits and learning opportunities for residents.
- In coordination with department staff, advise and/or support residential student leadership organizations and programs.
- Remain up to date on emerging practices for collegiate housing programs.
- Use data to inform community programming needs and support department staff in the development, revision and implementation of a relevant and comprehensive residential curriculum.
- In collaboration with Student Care and Community Standards, Counseling, and the Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation, engage restorative practices, case management best practices and trauma-informed approaches to student incident case management.
- Respond to campus and student housing community emergencies as necessary.
Administrative Oversight
- Propose, implement, review and manage department budgets in coordination with the Dean of Student Life and Leadership.
- Ensure compliance with the fiscal responsibilities of a self-support, bond-debt obligated student housing program.
- Coordinate occupancy management processes including housing application, contract offers and roster documentation.
- Coordinate residential billing and educate residents on payment processes, deadlines and financial resources.
- Support institutional collections and payment processes in collaboration with Finance and Student Financial Services.
- In collaboration with the Housing Operations Coordinator, coordinate capital projects, equipment purchases, maintenance work orders, room turnover cleaning and other facilities-related activities in collaboration with Campus Operations.
- Coordinate the processing of purchasing and service contracts for department.
- In collaboration with the Housing Operations Coordinator, Co-administer Bellevue College's Housing Management Software (currently eRezLife), including entering and tracking student data, running reports, facilitating room changes, and processing Housing resident check-in and check-outs.
Staff Management and Team Development
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, mentor and coach direct report staff in alignment with Bellevue College Human Resources processes.
- Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews in alignment with Bellevue College policies.
- Plan and lead regular department staff meetings, trainings, and in-service opportunities.
- Promote professional development opportunities for direct and indirect reports.
- Resolve employee relations issues and conflicts using appropriate strategies including, Restorative Practices, coaching, performance management, and progressive discipline.
- Maintain an equitable, safe, and effective working environment.
- Plan and support the work of department staff.
Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate and maintain effective working relationships with critical campus partners, including but not limited to Student Engagement, Student Care and Community Standards, Title IX, International Education, Athletics, Disability Resource Center, Public Safety, Campus Operations, Food Services, Finance and relevant academic, extracurricular and co-curricular programs serving residential students.
- Enforce college policies and procedures and provide feedback to other campus constituencies regarding policy and procedure impacts on students, staff and operations.
- Regularly evaluate Housing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with, and support for, the Student Affairs organizational plan and the Bellevue College institutional Strategic Plan.
- Build and support networks and partnerships between students, faculty, staff and administration.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the Bellevue College community as well as visitors to campus.
- Develop department recruiting and marketing materials, including the housing website, social media and printed documents that clearly communicates the department¿s functions, protocols, values and goals.
- Support outreach and recruitment activities for the college, division and department as designated.
- Conduct educational workshops, trainings, presentations and other outreach efforts.
- Prepare written reports, including annual department reports, occupancy reports and ongoing budget updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration or related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student housing operations.
- One (1) year of experience supervising staff.
- Experience with fiscal management (billing, budget development, expenditure and revenue tracking, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience supporting diverse students, faculty, staff, and other community members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Effective verbal, written, and customer service communication skills.
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills including ethics and integrity, problem-solving, conflict management, and decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday on-call duties, as well as emergency response to critical incidents in on-campus after hours.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification and completion of Title IX, hazing prevention and opioid overdose response trainings within 90 days of hire.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in student housing operations.
- One (1) year of experience supervising full-time staff.
- Experience with student group advising.
- Experience with academic programming and living learning programs.
- Experience with student housing occupancy management (application and contract offers, billing, roster management, etc.)
- Knowledge of current and emerging information technology applications relating to student life and housing.
- Experience in physical plant operations including facility construction, maintenance and repair.
