Associate Faculty Pool, Medical Coding, BSTEC Department (PT Faculty)
SALARY: A five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94
LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington

DESCRIPTION: The Edmonds College Business Division and Business Information Technology Department invites applications for an Associate Faculty, Medical Coding Instructor pool. This is a part-time faculty position, teaching quarterly, online, medical coding courses with a weekly student support session. This position is supported by faculty training, development, and mentoring. The college seeks faculty who will take a leadership role in their departments and the college, will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success. This Associate Faculty position reports to the Dean of Business.
Medical Coding Faculty members are responsible for the following:
Teaching assigned ICD, CPT, and Advanced Coding courses in the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certificate program to a diverse student body in an online format
Developing curriculum
Preparing teaching materials
Developing and assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work
Assigning grades
Maintaining required records
Advising and mentoring students to prepare them for AAPC's CPC and AHIMA's CCS-P certification exams and support their success
Participating in required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance training) and personal and program evaluation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate¿s degree in health information or a business-related field.
Current plus at least three previous consecutive years' full-time employment as an AAPC CPC or AHIMA RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P coder
Excellent speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of medical coding computer applications and ability to apply technology to coding curriculum
Ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff, and students as part of an educational team
Ability to meet with students over virtual online platforms
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in health information or a business-related field.
Demonstrated medical coding teaching or trainer experience
Five, previous, consecutive years' full-time employment as a certified professional coder with AAPC's CPC or AHIMA's RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P credential
Current CPC-I certification or willingness and eligibility to become a CPC-I
Experience with multiple approaches to teaching and learning, such as incorporating a variety of technologies into the classroom, teaching online or hybrid classes, or using other innovative techniques
Demonstrated ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness, backgrounds, and life experiences
Experience with educational technology and online teaching methods
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in a classroom or office and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment.
COMPENSATION:
The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step A. Special assignments are paid at $45 per hour, and meeting stipends are compensated per the CBA rate, starting at $55 for meetings lasting from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant¿s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- For education and degrees completed outside of the United States, an independent evaluation approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) is needed before the hiring process will be completed.
