JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: To assists in technical procedures performed in the Cardiac Catherization Lab, by providing safe patient care; maintaining and operating physiological monitor/recording system; assisting physicians; processing films; and performing all other assigned duties. Manages situations and problems in invasive and therapeutic cardiac procedures by applying advanced cardiovascular knowledge and skills. Performs job for the age population served, as defined in the department's scope of service.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

1. Receives patient and monitors procedures to ensure patient safety.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Effectively orients patient to environment and responds to patient's physiological and psychological needs.
• Evaluates lab values accurately.
• Recognizes and effectively responds to emergent situations.
• Administers life support, when necessary, with compliance to ACLS protocol.
• Records procedural events in McKesson system.
• Demonstrates knowledge of hemodynamic data collected during procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and physiology.


2. Operates technical equipment used in procedures.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Displays working knowledge of CDL equipment.
• Attends in-services related to new products as needed.

3. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic monitoring, including documentation and charging accurately.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Interprets and communicates relevant patient diagnostic information to physician accurately.
• Enters all patient assessment, supply and charge information accurately into computerized patient log.


4. Assists physician during procedure.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Prepares sterile fields according to CDL standards.
• Opens correct supplies according to physician preference list.
• Demonstrates proficiency in invasive/interventional procedures.
• Consistently anticipates physician needs during procedures having items ready or nearby.


5. Circulates during procedures.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Remains aware of the ongoing situation during procedures, anticipating physician and patient needs.
• Stays alert to patient vital signs and changes in status.
• Demonstrates knowledge of equipment use and location.
• Consistently anticipates physician needs related to equipment and other suggestions or alternatives.

6. Assists in Cath Lab maintenance.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Ensures room is clean and well stocked.
• Maintains date current inventory, and orders needed supplies to ensure availability.
• Checks in new products.
• Files cath lab films and other technical and hemodynamic data.

7. Performs all other duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
2 years of Invasive procedures experience preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of a school of radiologic technology, respiratory therapy or cardiovascular technology with registry completion preferred.
Current Louisiana license preferred.
BLS Certification required.


HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, medical records related to quality data, patient financial information, patient billing 3rd party, patient related complaints, information related to patient location, and/or patients' religious beliefs.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, validates patients for any procedure/surgery, transports, monitors or observes patients with infusion pumps, monitors clinical alarms, and collects blood samples.
