JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Participates in the operation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant and equipment in and around all applicable General Health System facilities.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

• Employee demonstrates the use of proper safety techniques, equipment and devices and follows safety policies, procedures and plans.

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

1. Performs repairs, preventative maintenance and/or installations on all assigned equipment.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Installs assigned equipment within manufacturers' specifications.

2. Monitors operation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, hot water, medical gas and other systems.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Determines whether readings are within normal ranges, and responds appropriately to readings outside of normal ranges, within established GHS/departmental policies and procedures.
• Adjusts controls as needed to maintain proper operational conditions.
• Reports abnormal conditions to supervisor.

3. Follows GHS safety protocols for all tasks.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Demonstrates a complete understanding and adherence to GHS fire, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
• Practices all safety precautions and utilizes safety equipment (i.e. safety glasses, proper attire, etc.) within department and industry guidelines.

4. Performs all other duties as required.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Attends in-services and other meetings as required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four years experience in hospital or building maintenance OR five years experience in an industrial craft.

ADDITIONAL SKILL, LICENSE, AND/OR KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, medical gas and steam systems, tools and materials. Able to work independently.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing and environment of care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Stooping-Bending body downward and forward by being spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. (Frequently)

Kneeling-Bending legs at knees to rest on knee or knees. (Frequently)

Crouching-Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine. (Frequently)

Crawling-Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. (Occasionally)

Reaching-Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. (Frequently)

Handling-Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. (Frequently)

Feeling-Perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching. (Frequently)

Talking-Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information, and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other works accurately, loudly, or quickly. (Frequently)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors.  The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.  The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers and sprays while performing the duties of this job. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  May be required to work long hours in event of emergency.
