POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of duties associated with the provision of surgical procedures, utilizing sound aseptic technique and established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. Performs scrub technician duties functioning at all levels of each surgical specialty.  Cleans, handles and sterilizes surgical instruments according to infection control policies and procedures and manufacturers recommendations. Performs all biological monitoring of sterilizing equipment, as well as verifying that the procedure logs for this equipment are accurate and complete. Assists in the selection of instruments for the daily lineup of surgical cases. Assists in the re-order of the implant inventory, and maintains the implant inventory stock level for all implant trays.Services are provided based on the ages of the population served; Newborn through geriatric - 65 years or older and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent education/experience
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program

Certifications/Licenses

  • Current Surgical Technician Certification or equivalent experience/training
  • Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum of six months previous OR experience preferred
  • Previous experience in reprocessing operations preferred
  • Knowledge of or experience with Medical Terminology preferred
  • Typing and computer experience
  • Sufficient computer skills as are required to complete an online application and the pre-employment/annual Net Learning requirements
  • In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking/sitting
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Exposure to stressful environments that may include communicating with difficult individuals in emotional situations
  • Contact with patients and guests under a wide variety of circumstances
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases
  • Exposure to infections and contagious diseases
  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, including the handling of emergency or crisis situations
  • Subject to pressure due to irregular hours, frequent interruptions and stressful situations due to multiple demands
